Google SERP oddity. Google no longer ranking.. Google?!

Hi all,
I've recently been following a few blog/forum posts such as:
Hacker News | Giving up on Google
Google Updates and SERP Changes - September 2010
which have been discussing Google's SERPs becoming less relevant (Matt Cutts has also been commenting on the first website I linked to - he confirmed it was him on his Twitter feed).
Anywhoo, today I did some 'trial' searches such as:
search engine
web based email
adverts for publishers
traffic analytics
And (at least for me, searching in Google.co.uk; I've tried logged in and also logged out), Google doesn't seem to rank well for these keywords anymore?
In the keywords above, Google search is 7th for "search engine", and then G-mail, Adsense and Analytics homepage aren't on the first page for their respective keywords above.
I personally find it pretty funny (it seems like Google itself are currently in an algorithm-induced Google Dance!!), but also a little worrying since Google SERP relevance seems to be going backwards recently.
I'm wondering whether this happens to you? Or if you've noticed any other oddities in the Google SERPs?
