Should I add articles to my blog or submit them?

I am a newbie in SEO and have seen several forum posts that talk about submitting articles in article directories. Up until now, I would create an article and post it on my blog (which is a subdomain on my money site) and submit links to these articles to sites such as Digg and Reddit etc (From this forum, I came to know I was wasting my time as these are nofollow sites)

My question is, is this the right way of doing SEO? Or should I be submitting articles to Article directories. I've also heard of article spinning but am not sure how and why I should be spinning the articles.
Can someone explain? Thanks

I submit my articles to sites like EzineArticles (very strict about duplicate content and takes up to 7 days to be approved), Hubpages, Squidoo, etc. Backlinks from them are extremely minimal considering the time involved in creating an article but the traffic is great. The sites that I mentioned can rank very well in lower competition niches without any promotion.

Article spinning is the process of changing sections of an existing article to make it unique again and avoid duplicate content. There are article spinners out there that you can use (most are paid, but I think there are a few free ones). I prefer to just write new, quality articles instead of trying to reproduce the same article as many times as possible.

you can do both, but first you want to make sure you submit them and they are approved by ezine publishers then from there you can put them into your blog

Continue to post articles on your blog, and then spin them so that you can put them onto article directories and have them link back to your original blog posts.

In doing this, the article directories can grab you a bit of extra traffic, and the backlinking will (hopefully) rank your blog posts highly on the search engines, as long as the keywords they're optimized for are low competition.

Also, use as many social bookmarking sites as possible for your articles. From what I know, a number of them are effective.

Submit them to the article directories and web 2.0 sites first (especially Ezinearticles), then put it on your blog.

      What? Nonsense.

Post the article on your blog, wait for google to index it and than submit to ezine etc..

EZs TOS clearly allows you to do that (i do it all the time).

After all, do you want to build ezines business, or your own?

Correct. Always post your articles on your site first, then wait for indexing.
After they have been indexed, you can submit that same article to the various article directories of your choice.
This is NOT considered duplicating content, this is simply article syndication.
Duplicate content occurs when there are two of the same article in a specific directory, or on a web site.
Too many people get article syndication and duplicate content mixed up.

    marketguy has it right.

Publish them on your blog first then in article directories. Makes no sense to have it the other way.
