301 Redirect Question

Hi all,

I have a simple WP site which started out as an experiment in a small niche, selling a physical household product. The product was sourced from a local supplier who dropships for me.

I want to redirect my traffic to the site of the dropshipper, linking to the page on his site which sells the same product (I've done a deal with him, since my site is getting a decent amount of targeted traffi).

Is it possible to do this without losing the page 1 Google rankings etc which I currently have for various keywords and what's the best way to go about it?

Abdul.

I believe there is a good chance the domain will lose its ranking and fall out of the SERPs if it is top ranking for a keyword with a lot of traffic.

I've done 301 redirects before, and 2 years later, one domain is deindexed, and another one vanished off the internet (but still indexed).

Because of the content change, over time, it will drop. You are not simply
moving one page to the other. Unless the content of his site is worthy of
what you have been doing, and is similar.

It would be different if you had control of the dropshipper's site.

Better to just leave links to the dropshipper's site.

What kind of deal is the other question.
Is he going to track your generated traffic somehow? I may be wrong,
but I don't know think a 301 redirect shows up as a referring site.

If your site has boatloads more traffic than his, then it would be the other
way around. He would transfer his site to your domain and do a 301 redirect.

I too would not recommend messing with a good thing. What you want to do may very likely mess up your traffic and ranking. Have you considered outright selling the website or setting up some other kind of deal?
