SEO is part of my wide range of job responsibilities. We actually split the job between myself ( I handle mostly on-page, planning, and information architecture ) and the marketing/PR department which does our outreach and social media.

Depending on the outcome of the interview I had today, then the answer to that may be yes!

As my first language is not English I can't see the difference between a SEO firm and a SEO Company. Can you tell me please?

When he said SEO firm or company, I took it to mean an SEO firm, or a (non-SEO) company that needs an SEO. He was just alternating the words "firm" and "company" for the sake of non-repetitiveness. Hope that helps.

@Charles Montgomery I used to be employed as an in-house SEO and spent some time at an agency, but now I only consult.

Typically, these are the team members or skillsets you'll need to build a solid SEO team:

Programmer: This person should be able to handle server issues, 301 redirects, and make technical/code changes the website needs to conform to best practices.

SEO Analyst: This person will be doing a lot of the blocking/tackling tasks on the team. Editing meta and title tags, changing headers and all that good stuff. Also, having a solid understanding of keyword research, analytics, and running ranking reports is a plus.

Content Writer: You'll need someone out there developing content for links by writing articles and press releases. Also you'll want someone who can generate additional content on your website to capture any missing keyphrases.

In a nutshell those are pretty much the 3 core skillsets you need. I would also make sure to develop a plan to make a clear goal for your SEO campaign and how you will report progress to the higher ups.

If you're going to hire more staff you're superiors will want to see how it's going to benefit their bottom line in the end.

      Hope that helps.
