Help, please. Backlinking/linkbait question

I'm not getting any traction with this in the main marketing forum so maybe someone here can help.

Here's the dilemma I face:

I've had a cartoonist create a humorous piece of content for my site as linkbait. Of course, the embed code will have a link back to my site, but here is where I am torn.

The subject of my site is of a personal nature (like genital herpes) and I'm not sure how to structure the link.

Should I just have a link back to the domain as in "cartoon courtesy of GenitalHerpesHell.com" or should I link with anchor text as in "cartoon courtesy of genital herpes solution" with the link pointing to a page optimized for that keyword phrase? (That's not really my site btw.:p)

Do you think it will matter to webmasters which is used?

My initial thinking was that it doesn't matter because they will either care about linking to a genital herpes site or they won't. And ideally I'd like to link to the optimized page. But then I wondered if there's a greater chance of getting more links if it's a domain name rather than a keyword phrase.

    It comes back to what are you trying to accomplish? I assume you want backlinks to your primary keywords in your domain name. If you're using ""cartoon courtesy of" you should use your domain as you want recognition as well as rankings. The others can be deep linked within content.

    Actually, I already rank in the first position for the keywords in my domain name.

    I'd like to rank for some of the keywords on my inner pages, but then of course the backlink doesn't make as much sense when I use "cartoon courtesy of". So if that would turn off prospective linkers, then maybe I'm better off just using the domain name to build PR?
