If you had a decent SEO blog setup with good keywords and you had the EXACT URL for your keyword, do you think you could easily rank #1?

    Hi jbrett,

    It couldn't hurt.

The keyword in the URL is one of the prime signals Google uses to determine relevancy, so having your targeted keyword in the domain will ensure that all links to every page on your website includes your targeted keyword in the URL. This goes a long way to helping you rank, but keep in mind that it's only one of over 200 signals and competitors can overcome this advantage with heavy promotion.

Considering that there can only be one #1 spot, of course not. 1000 people could do the same thing ;-)

Yeah, where is that "your site is not in a vacuum" thread?

You have no idea who, what, or where your competition is.

I would like you to explain how 1000 people can all have an EXACT url which is what the original poster asked?

Anyways as everyone has said, it's a help but not a guarantee

    A simple no.

I do aim to make my domains match my niche as close as possible - but there is the rest of the site you know. Optmiize the title tag (make sure you do good KW analysis before you get started though), if you have any pics, make sure you include the KWs in your alt attribute w/in your img tag, put KWs in the body of your text and write a good description for meta tag desc (even though google doesn't look at this - it will help lure ppl in).

Make sure your pages are interlinked and promote the heck out of your website.

No guarantees, but having the exact .com domain of your keyword is a big chance for a jackpot.

Make sure to add it to the title, meta and site content too.

You can't guarantee anything in the serps man. You have to work at it and build relevant and powerful links to your site in bulk. Only time and effort will get you the results you are searching for.

Unless the URL is a random set of letters that doesn't mean anything, then possibly.

Well...in my experience. Exact match domains have a much higher success rate for the #1 spot than a domain without the exact match.

I don't know how much of a boost it is, but with an EMD I consistently outrank sites with much more age, and backlinks.

EMD's are a great way to give yourself a leg up on the competition. I'll take an EMD over a brandable domain any day of the week, as long as one is available. If not, then at least having your primary keywords in the domain provides some benefit as well.

My 3 month experience: one page SEO is over sold and hyped. Personally I have couple of websites with optimized one page SEO and it is more than a month, the site is in the 10th page of google. None of the first page sites have On page optimized.

There is no guarantee of any kind..may be the strategies which we are using today would be devalued by the search engines so instead of thinking of manipulating search engine algorithms try to force them to get you in top and you can do so by developing your brand name .....and popularizing it!

seo is not only depends on keywords and url.
Keywords and URl are also important.
Apart from that we need to work on content and back links.

It really comes down to the competition. If theres zero competition, you'll be up there in no time without any backlinks.
