I would really appreciate your input on this.
What's considered a normal adsense CTR and what would you call exceptional?

You'll probably hear this response a lot: It depends. If you're in a tech niche people are typically less likely to click on the ads. If you're doing something more general like, baking, then you're CTR will probably be higher.

With that being said I've got an old adsense site that gets about a 1% CTR and I think that's pretty good. I would say the average is probably under 1% CTR.

Hello fellow Minnesotan. I would say that 8-10% is average for most of my sites. These are information sites, not forums. My better sites sit around 15% CTR on Adsense.

For the last 2 weeks i have had nothing less than a 50% CTR. I only get about 30 views a day, but the clicks are expensive so i'm happy. My opinion on your ad placement is to literaly force them to look at your add. Put it near the top of your site aswell as inside the content if its good.

Also something to keep in mind.. If i search for hosting, and go to a site with adds regarding golf balls or dating, i wont go near the add. If the adds said 50% off hosting, i would rush to the add and click it. get some "expensive" keywords that advertisers are bidding on and try to rank for those.. good luck..

WOW. 50% is unheard of! Also, I heard that anything above 15%-20% raises red flags with google and they shut off your account thinking you are cheating. Is that true?

I get about 130 uniques a day but very low CTR and very low click rates too. I have placed my ads near the top as well as inline plus anywhere I think that my readers may be attentively reading. I am also filtering irrelevant ads out of my site. Could you show me one of your adsense sites. You could show me one thats not making any money for you but would give me a better sense of how to place the ads. Do we make them stand out or merge them with the page so they look like ordinary links?
I read somewhere that merging is better and thats what I have done.

It's not unheard of! well, I've heard of it being claimed lots of times in this very forum. I don't know about the red flag with google thing though.

Not in my experience. Some of my sites average between 20-30% monthly.

As long as the clicks are valid then there's nothing to worry about.

I am getting the general feeling, that anything between 10% to 20% is very acceptable. Did i get that right?

I'd say that's acceptable for sites with low traffic. The more traffic you get the lower your CTR will go in my experience.

Also, if you're interested in split testing your Adsense ads to determine which placement, color, and font size, our fellow warrior Fraggler (Troy), has an excellent Adsense split tester wordpress plugin on WSO for $3.50 today only right now. After that it goes up by a whopping $1.50. It's definitely worth it.

It's helped me tremendously and improved the CTR for one of my sites big time. If you want to check it out, it can be found here: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...ough-roof.html

I do appreciate your reply and i may check this wso out, but i was interested in real time experience from our warriors. I do not want to change my sites, if it turns out that my CTRs are excellent (10-15%).

I was just pointing it out to you because it could go even higher than that. My CTR doubled by just changing the font type and color slightly.

Don't always expect a 10 to 15%. CTR will vary between every single niche you get into. For physical product based niches like Pa Systems for example, it's common to see CTR's like the ones you've mentioned.

For more information hungry niches like tech, travel, health, you're CTR won't be nearly as high in my experience. I definitely encourage you to test everything. Even if you could improve your CTR by 25%, that could result in 1000's of dollars annually. Make the most of your traffic.

Worst case scenario is that your CTR drops a bit and you go back to the placement, color, etc, that you were using before.

Hi, I'm seeing CTR like last months as being pretty normal 216 total sites CTR overall 8.6%
I agree with the other gentleman in that it depends on the niche. I have a coffee table site with CTR's near 30% I have a travel site with less than 1%.

A weird but money making tactic I discovered (someone else may have thought of it 1st but they didn't tell me) is to use a little code and position your adsense on top to the side and below a video but all to the right hand side of center.

Make the video size such that the video and your ads are on the screen while the video is playing.

Try out a home improvement video or a how to video in an adsense targetable niche.
On those I see the greatest total revenue.

              I hope that helps.

This depends on your niche. Someone looking for a specific physical product is more likely to click on an ad compared to someone who is looking for information.

Anywhere from 8 to 15% is a good CTR. I've had 25% on certain pages (MFA site with 25 pages) But that was rare. ~10% is perfect.

My overall Adsense account ranges from 9-10% CTR. My highest performing site is in the 6-7% range, and the runner up site averages less than 3%. Many of my smaller sites are in the 20-35% range. Overall, I am on pace for about $300 this month. Work, work, work, and you will see results.
