    From what I have read, but have never done myself, you need to get citations to your business to help boost its position on the google places map. This would be to have your business listed in directories like Yelp and yellow pages, etc. Google picks up on the business name and phone number. From what I can see by looking at other google places listining, it is the ones that have the most complete profiles and the most information in the "more about this place" section that are ranking the highest.
