Link wheels and money site

I am a newbie in seo and have heard that using link wheels is an effective form of promoting the money site. My understanding of link wheel is that we create user accounts or pages in web 2.0 properties and add link to the money sit and a link to the next web 2.0 property. We then concentrAte the seo efforts on the web 2.0 properties in the wheel and the juice flows to the money site.

Is my understanding correct? Doesn't this technique promote the web 2.0 sites more than your dollar site resulting in your money site ranked lesser than the web 2.0 sites in the search engine results?

Normal link wheel don't work anymore. Google will see the pattern and not even index some of your web 2.0 properties.

A random link wheel, on the other hand, will work. Example below:

EZA -> AB -> Hubpages -> Money page
Hubpages -> Squidoo -> AB -> Money page
AB -> Squidoo -> another AB -> Money page

You get the point. Randomize how you link your article directories and mini blogs together.

Also, don't focus on these alone. Profile links, blog comments, web directories, press releases, forum signature links, rss feeds, social bookmarking so Google notices the diversity of the links pointing to your site.

    Hope that helped.

      Thanks for the response.

So, should I be promoting the Web 2.0 properties? If I do that, am I not risking those pages showing up above my money site in search results?

Web 2.0 properties is exactly what you want to use to promote but stay away from the linkwheel for sure. It was once a viable process but now it will kill you.

Use Web 2.0 properties, article directories and the like... don't worry if they show up in front of your site as that will happen at times. That's actually good in that the people that read that article will be presold on what you are offering on your site.

Building links to a website is imperative, as it can improve the perceived popularity of the website in which you building the links to. If you think about it this way, the more times that a website appears as the search engine spiders crawl the web, the more important that site is perceived to be. It is particularly important to ensure that you constantly have the same keywords, or anchor text when placing links as this will mean that the links that you build are associated with the same keywords or niche as your main site.

your best bet with a linkwheel has already been stated by outsourcer in terms of randomization. you want to always randomize your web2.0 properties and how they link up, but you also shouldn't be afraid to interlink your properties either as long as they are properly randomized. once you get a nice batch of 2.0 properties set up and linked together, blast the hell out of them. take advantage of the authority domains that your links are hosted on and do work.
