Will multiple links on the same page to sites sharing the same IP cause trouble?

Hi there,

I already know that having multiple sites on the same ip interlinking with each other is no good. What I'm asking is, what if i put some links on a page (different ip) pointing to sites with the same ip? Will Google discount them or somehow penalize me?

Excessive links from the same IP groups will be discounted

It shouldn't cause any problem. If it was that easy, I'd start linking to all my competitors

Well, I don't know... I too find it unlikely that I would receive a penalty, because then it could be used against competitors... But maybe the links from that page get discounted? As in, they don't have any value?

You are seriously in error on that one. Many, many sites have hundreds of
sites, all interlinked, same ip. Why not? I just don't get how this is the biggest secret!

    Wikipedia comes to mind....icanhazcheezburger......gasbuddy's sites.....etc...etc.

I'm talking about interlinking them for SEO purposes. It's proven that if you link together a network of sites sharing the same IP with the purpose of raising in the SERPs it doesn't work.

Google has a lot of smart people and they know that just because sites are on the same IP doesn't mean they aren't legit. Some people have a group of similar sites linked to one another and it is perfectly fine.

Focus more on the relevance of your content to the anchor links, than things like IP and host.
