Does Changing IP Address Impact Rankings?

Fellow Warriors,

I have a client who is asking me about IP address changes. Apparently they use rackspace and are purchasing a new box for hosting. This new server will have a different IP (same domain name though). Will this impact search engine rankings?

I've hear mixed messages on this including that it's more important that the domain is registered under the same name than IP address. Suggestions?

    It shouldn't make much difference.

    But the location of the new server might make a difference. For example, if the server was in USA but is now in Europe, you might find that the (local) USA rankings fall slightly whilst the (local) Europe rankings rise slightly.

    But overall it should be okay as long as everything else (as you say, such as the domain) stays the same. Google et al are aware that people change hosts, servers and IPs sometimes so I'm sure it won't have any major affect.

    Certainly, I've moved hosts in the past and my traffic from the search engines was exactly the same.

    You may experience a temporary shufffle from what I have been told. We had to upgrade servers from within the same hosting company, and it had no affect at all. I would get too worrined, but prepare your client just in case.

    I also have changed servers and my site rankings haven't budged. But, yes, it was still in the states.

    If you change domain registar it won't change anything because it doesn't matter in terms of seo.

    But if you change hosting that might impact your rankings, only if you change hosting country.

    I just change my country hosting server (deutschland to french hosting) and i loose all my Ranking, today google send me 2 visitors only (i used to have 500 visitors by day )

    I don't know if i have to return in the oldest hosting ?
    Or How many time I have to wait for rise a good ranking ?

    The new hosting is must faster and is in the country of the website
