Hi Guys,

For a good few months 2 of my sites were on page 1, #2 of google for their respective keywords, i used xrumer and instead of letting the backlinks be found naturally (like i normally do) i gave them a helping hand and sped up the indexing process to get them to number 1 when i checked today 1 site is still on page 1 but is in the 8th position and the other site is waaaay back on page 400+.

my question is if your sites are in a comfortable position do you still build backlinks to them?

cheers guys

Graham

Yes, you should build backlinks if you're in a comfortable position to both maintain that position and try to surpass any sites in front of you. I have seen one instance of backlinks starting an extended Google Dance for a site with high rankings in a competitive niche, but generally the backlinks help, it just might take some time for the rankings to settle down.

This has happened to me. I continued building quality links more slowly and I rose back even higher than before. Took a few months though

Thanks a lot guys, by sheer luck *i think* i did another blast last night, i re-checked the rankings this morning and 1 of my sites has jumped back up to it's original place, the other site has also jumped from 400+ to position 91 (at least it's in the right direction lol)

do you think it was because i built more backlinks? or would it have done that anyway? it's hard to answer i know, it's a funny old game

    cheers guys

Try to build high quality backlinks so that the rankings go up steadily as opposed to jump back and forth.

Having your site back on page 1 is not likely to be a co-incidence especially since you did a blast last night.

SEo is an on-going process. I you want to stay on there at position #1 you will need to continuously build backlinks to your site.

I have had a site ranking page 1, #1, for a pretty competitive term for nearly a year now, and that was all within 1 month of backlinks going to it.

If it's dropping and other sites seem to be popping up going for the gold(#1), I might start moving on it, otherwise, I just let it be. It really depends on the competition though. It is good though to have basic link building going to the site every couple of months and some fresh content too.

    Cheers
