    Gary,

consider to narrow your question down some. There is no global answer since it differs from niche to niche. There is a huge variety in competition depending on the terms you go for. Which niche were you thinking about tackling?

Head over to the WSO section if you are a newbie to SEO. Daniel Tan, Chandan Dutta and some others have some good WSOs using which you could possibly start understanding SEO (note, I am not affiliated to any of the names that I mentioned there in any way, but have personally read their material).

Again, how much work your SEO would be depends absolutely upon your niche, search term etc - maybe you shall be able to guage a lot better once you understand the basics.

Thanks very much for the replies.

I'm not exactly a SEO newbie but I would like to extend my SEO knowledge.....in particular local search engine marketing, google maps etc.

I was hoping for a site equivalent to Problogger which instead of giving excellent blogging advice would give general or specialised SEO and traffic tips advice.

        I hope that helps.

        Thanks

        Gary

You're already at it. Warriorforum SEO subsection is where I have learned the most by far. That and just with practice and experience.

Mention also deserves to go to backlinksforum.com.
