Extending My Site To 500 Pages - GOOD IDEA?

I have a site in the health and diet niche that has been good to me over the years. It consistently makes me money with Adsense and I am rather fond of it.

Currently it has 20 pages of content, plus sitemap, privacy policy and contact info.

Anyway I am looking at turning it into a 500 page Adsense site over the next few months.

Currently make about $30 a month from it (not touched it for the last two years really).
So my aim is to turn it into $750 to $1000 dollars per month just from Adsense.

Just wondered if any of you have mega sites like this and are they profitable?

Regards

John

My only question is if you can maintain a site that's so big. Can you update it when you need to, and keep tabs on it like you should?

Very good question ... I intend to write really good quality pages that will last for a long time as once each one is up I will not be updating that often.

In fact if it works my updates would probably be further pages.

I say go crazy and start adding pages.

    They must be unique content

    and they must be optimized!

Not necessary unique content. You can grab useful articles from EzineArticles.com and other directories and credit them. That can help you make 500+ pages.

Look at all the "BIG" sites, they also rely on RSS feeds (ie. duplicate content?) to beef up their homepage.

    Hi John,

I do this and it can be very profitable, especially if you set them up right SEO-wise.

    All the best ...

You had me agreeing with you right up until this point.

If you have the content, upload it. If you were running an ecommerce site you wouldn't drip your product listings, you would list them all at once. I've uploaded sites for clients that had between 1000-10000 product pages with no ill effects at all (you do need a good sitemap though). Same deal here. The only reason to go slower is if you need to create/review the content, better organize the content, or organize your link building to individual pages better.

I do agree with you there's sort of an 80-20 rule going on with these larger sites, about 20% of the pages get about 80% of the traffic and earnings. So, when calculating potential earnings, keep this ratio in mind, not every page is going to earn the same.

Rather than choosing some arbitrary figure for how big you want to make it, why not build it out as big as you can with the available suitable keywords?

You may find that there is more than 500 of those or you may find that there are much less. I don't see the point in just writing tons of content unless there are suitable keywords behind that content.

You're making $30/month from 20 pages which averages out to $1.50/month per page. If you're satisfied with the earnings per page and their are lots more suitable keywords, then I don't see why not.
