Minimum Searches a Month?

Heya Warriors,

Hope everyone's having a good day/evening - I've got a quick question regarding search.

What is the minimum amount of searches a month you will accept in order to target a keyword?

I ask this because I checked out one of my CPA accounts and found a nicely converting offer, that pays around $4 for a short form lead. I opened up MNF and did a search and found a few keywords that are EXACTLY what the CPA offer is converting - however the searches per month is a little on the low side; here are the stats:

Keyword 1
Searches a month = 500
EXACT "keyword" competition = 3,310 results
.org and .net available

Keyword 2 - Targets the actual country
Searches a month = 200
EXACT "keyword" competition = 2,020
.org available

Is it worth going after this keyword? Or is their too little search volume for it to be worth setting the site up?

Regards

Keyword 1 - .org and .net available - what is the competition when you look at intitle and inurl filters? What do the .com and .info sites look like? What is the competition on the first page of Google for the search term without quotation marks (i.e. how relevant, how many backlinks etc.)?

500 searches a month is normally below my minimum of 1000 but sometimes you find one that is worth the effort below that but only of you can pretty easily get in the top 3.

      in url = 920
      in title = 933
      in anchor = 2,530

      keyword.com is parked
      keyword.info is available

Fairly competitive first page, ranging from PR0 to PR5, however it contains links to pages on sites, rather than directly to the domain.

So their actual page may have 100 backlinks, their main site has 12,000 - 102,000.

The other keyword is a lot less competitive, however low search volume unfortunately.

If you are doing PPC and its converting and you are making $$ but are you making enough money from your efforts and investments?
Building my own niche sites, not PPC.

Thanks for the advice so far everyone

A niche site with the domain for the exact keyword - worth a shot IMHO. It will cost you around $10 and a bit of time to create the site and build monthly backlinks to see if it's worthwhile. And you can't always rely on those search numbers of course.

So in your opinion would it be better to buy the more competitive keyword that has 500 searches per month, then work on ranking well for the second keyword which has around 200 searches per month.

They are highly targeted towards the CPA offer, the secondary keywords is perfect for it.

So the plan is to buy the .org for the higher search volume keyword, but also try to rank well for the other keyword - so good position for both is 700 searches a month.

      What do you think?

I built a CPA based website targeting a keyword that gets about 300 exact monthly searches and now I am on #2 in google, I get yahoo traffic as well. I got 1-5 search engine visitors a day and got about 10 leads x $2.40 in the last three months. Now I will target similar keywords in that niche for this website and try to increase the traffic in time.

I knew that the traffic would be low for that website even before I started but I also knew that the conversion rate will be high because of the niche and my landing page. That site was one of my first test sites in CPA that's why I went after a low competition keyword with less searches. And the good part is the niche will never disappear, meaning that it will probably keep getting about 10+ leads for the months to come.

So, if you think that you can convert the traffic, going after low search terms is not a bad idea.

I would give it a chance. The effort to build and rank this project seems to be very low. When it ranks it could bring a 3 figur income per year.

Personally I think 300 is far too low unless you can rank for 30 keywords with similar volumes. There is plenty of room in the 3,600 - 8,100 searches keywords so I'd go for something around that mark. Just my preference some warriors would probably go for 30,000 minimum..

For me both of those would be way to small to bother about unless you have something that is going to covert well with very little traffic.

I look for anything with a minimum of 2000 exact for clickbank or 3000 for adsense.

500 per month and below is really low, but it's your call. You will have to make sure it is #1, or else you will get next to zero traffic, even if you are top 5. Nothing less than #1 will do to maximize your conversion chances.

I have a couple of sites with about 500 searches per month and even #2 only gets about 100 visitors a month, max.

For Adsense, it is too low, and for affiliate sales, you need something that really sells easily, or gives a very good commission.

There is going to be a lot of debate about this... but for me, I'd go with more search volume. A lot of people talk about "low hanging fruit" but if you take the time to look for keywords that have more searches per month you'll find plenty that are going to be equal in competition than the low hanging fruit ones.

My view is just this: if you are going to spend time looking for a keyword then why not reward yourself by looking for those with more volume. They are there. In fact, a lot of the low hanging ones have more competition that higher volume words anyway.
