On Page PR Backlink Question

Hi there

I would just like to ask people's thoughts on the SEO value of having a backlink from a site such as Ezine or hubpages. (not talking traffic generation here)

I know these domains in their own right have a high PR, however my article or hub page when published only actually has a PR of 0.

Does this therefore mean that this backlink is not necessarily as good as a post on, for example, a blog that is a PR0?

As PR stands for page rank - is it just that and it is only the value of the actual page and not the domain the page is resting on, that Google determines how good the backlink is?

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks
Phil

    Hi Phil.

Domains don't have PR. PR is not assigned to websites, it is assigned to individual pages.

When you create a new page, whether on a brand new website or a high PR domain, they are both treated the same by search engines. What makes a difference is the inbound links to those pages. Many sites like Ezine and Hubpages have a community and they provide internal link structures that will pass link juice to the new pages that you create within their community. That is where the extra value comes from.

You can pass that same community like benefit onto a new blog page if you get inbound links of similar value pointing to the new pages you create. The obvious advantage of creating content in a community like hubpages is the built-in links and traffic from within the community.

Don has said it all here. I have nothing more to add. Just to mention though that its also slightly easier to appear higher up in SERPs using EZA and hubpages, than a new blog.

It's really hard to know the value of back links. There is so much information that conflicts on line. Some sites say any back link has value period and other sites say to stick with high page rank. I stick with mostly high page rank links from the warrior forum, but I do try to get links elsewhere. I think they all add up, especially if you use anchor text.
