I was on page 1 for a specific keyword and then it seems I vanished all together? Anyone know a reason for this?

might be google dance. Wait for a while and see does it come back again. Btw, how long is your site?

If you site is new and under 6 months old, than this is probably the Google Dance...

What you should do is make some changes to the page that was ranked number one, maybe right some comments to that page if it is possible and build backlinks to it. This might make it come back and it will probably come back either way if it is a new site.

It happens. You just have to keep up with your promotion efforts, but don't go overboard. Just don't stop building links to your site...shoot for quality.

Is your site new? It's not uncommon at all for new sites to have the pages show on page 1 for a few days or weeks after the site is first indexed even though they don't deserve to be on page 1. Then after some period the fall far back into the SERPs where they should have really been ranking all along. This called the Google Honeymoon, and like all "good things"... it too must come to an end.

It must be google is updating its algorithm that's why there's some instances occur but its only temporary and normal to search engine don't worry it will be back soon to normal for a while do your routine in link building improve more with your site. hope it helps.

It may be due to the fact that your site is new. If not, then too there has been some weird things I have seen happening of late - well not weird maybe because whatever Google does is legit if you are getting dictated by Google's wishes (their algorithms).

It may be a temporary dance - which I always suspect occurs by the way they handle ranking scores (I suspect that they get into this situation because I believe they use a Hadoop platform for distributed computing of scores and eliminating counting a score multiple times; and computing "search rank points" or whatever they call it is most probably a non-atomic operation inside their domain - I mean non-atomic in the transaction sense) - please note that this is completely my guess with no evidence to back it up.

But this is probably the most reasonable explanation that I could think of, unless someone thinks/knows of something better.

Wow thanks so much for the input, yes my site is a month old, and I started it aiming for a particular keyword, I have been backlinking it and it was nowhere to be found in google accept for just typing the url in the search engine itself. Then I saw it at number 5 then it went away then I looked and it landing a number 2. There are about 500,000 competing sites. I got real excited and then a little bummed when it vanished. I am still indexed at least. Thanks.

keywords jumping i the SERPs is a normal thing but vanishing doesnt make sense at all. sometimes Google bans a website due to spamming or black hat seo techniques...i hope you are not a spammer either a black hat..

Thanks a lot I have also get hits from some very strange terms that I have been surprised that I was ranked for even though I was not trying for these terms. Does anyone know of a good piece of software that tell you where you are in a google search?

All along my site was ranked 7 to 12 on Google for a very competitive niche during the past one year. However during the last few months, something happens - it improved to number one.

It was there for about six weeks. Out of sudden it disappears but come back again to be number two after two weeks. Unfortunately it last less than 3 days and disappear again.

It was not to be see for the next 10 weeks until 5 days ago I decided to add Google Adsense to my sidebar. Coincidentally this morning, my site appears again as number two on Google.

Does Google Adsense have anything to do with it or its just coincidence?

By the way my site is already more than two years with PR of 3.
