"The actual PR of pages is constantly changing, although the publicly disclosed PR by Google is only released a few times a year. Unless you work for Google and are privy to that secret information, no one knows when the next publicly release of updated PR will be and you shouldn't believe anyone that tells you that the next PR will occur on XXXX or any such nonsense."

I think it's coming any day. One of my sites went from a PR4 to PR3. But then after a day it was back up. I never saw that before.

...or flipping your site, or linking from your site for SEO, or bragging to nerdy chicks, or shaming fellow internet marketers who've got none. PR's not everything, but it ain't nothing neither. Only those who can't get it will tell you it's not worth anything.

Got it and its not worth anything because like Tom said you already have all the effects of it before they ever publicly update. Inside the computers at Google the PR is constantly being updated so its already being added to what makes your site rank.

By the way who can't get pagerank? Enough of almost any kind of backlinks and you get it.

Sell a domain the day before you get the little green bars and you'll get less for it than if you sell it the day after it gets them. The difference in what you sell it for - that's what it can be worth to have published PR information.

The non-monetary benefits of it are not influenced by whether it is published or not and it's been well explained here. But those non-monetary benefits are influenced by whether you are active in trying to acquire authority (by getting enough backlinks or quality backlinks or whatever). The idea of pagerank being worthless is bandied about carelessly because there are a lot of people that don't understand how it works. If someone got the idea PR was worthless and then didn't promote their site they might wonder why their site wasn't getting anywhere.

Understood, although note that Mike is simply saying that there won't be a difference in SERP ranking because of it (we are on the SEO subforum after all).

Obviously for site flipping purposes (or selling links on your sites), published PR can matter.

I stopped worrying about PR. If you do good SEO and get quality backlinks, you will not have a problem.

Its all about doing your homework, and finding markets that you can dominate. PR is not that much of an issue.

PR is updates daily, but it's never updated to the global index until google releases that portion of the code. Plus, PR stopped being of any real importance a long time ago. Yea, it may be something, but the days of focusing on it as a huge factor are long over.

After launching our new website, we have had some weird "swings" in PR on all pages exept the frontpage..

Some went from PR0 to PR4 and back to 0 in a month or so..

Any idea about what is going on?

Agree with you though.. Not that important.. Just interested in the reason :-)

I just checked my crystal ball, and determined the next pr update is tomorrow at noon.

seriously, No one knows, not even most of the google staff know.

in reality it does nothing for your site, your actual pr changes daily , the number in the tool bar just gives you an idea of around , somewhat close, maybe not , of what it is.at the time of that last update, 15 min after the update, its more than likly slightly changed again.
