Hello,

It seems like no matter how obscure the keyword it's about impossible to register the .com, net, or .org.

So, is .info okay to use? I've noticed some sites that rank well with their keyword +.info but I've always heard that I sure use 1 of big 3 and not any other extensions.

Thanks

.com is the best, .net is better than info.

    Just my opinion.

  • .info, .com, .net, .org, etc (all non-country coded TLDs) are ALL treated the same by Google from an SEO perspective.

However, people see .com domains as more legitimate for businesses. You'll likely get more click-thrus (as well as natural links from other webmasters) using a .com than you will using a .info with the exact same content.

There is a nifty search feature in this forum that would help you find the myriad of times this topic has been discussed over and over and over again: http://www.warriorforum.com/search.php

For now, Google the bold terms in the paragraph below:

This does beg the question, have you ever searched for info on Noam Chomsky? How about regular expressions, roman coins or craft ideas? Maybe you've never needed to do some research to find out if New York was a sanctuary city or to find out something about New York transit. Oh, and have you thought about moving your money to a local bank before you go shopping on Black Friday?

C'mon Bgmacaw! Get my favorite in, prchecker.info
They own the niche on pagerank. Anyone not in the know want to see?
If you have google instant on, just type pagerank...

Wouldn't you love to own blackfriday.u-know-what for just a couple of days a year?

This argument gets sillier and sillier each time. We all digress...

These domains don't really play an important role in SEO. .com is more effective I think!

Does not matter. It's what you do that people will be searching for, not your domain tag.

A universal domain in any format is good. I always buy the country specific domain to match.

.info extension ranks very well, I have not noticed any difference at all, I do have some info sites and these are my best site.

There is more info about info domains: info.info

Domain extensions are mainly considered from user point of view and not really a search engines point of view. If you promote it well and does not loose your focus on the website then you will see good results in search engines.

I know many people who fails promoting .coms well in search engines just because of their lack of focus on their projects. I have seen some extensions .am ranking for highly competitive keywords on Google (first page ranks)

The main reason for people going for .coms is many assume that internet means .com so they are popular for different reasons.

Work out on your options and choose the optimistic one rather than blindly selecting a domain extension.

ex: if you website is aimed at UK the best extension is .co.uk

    hope this helps

I had a .info once.waste of time. For really competitive .com domains have a .com domain sentence rather than just one word, or use hyphens?

Everything is pretty equal. .com won't be any easier than a .biz to rank.

That being said, I'd stay away from .info. They smell funny, as in I wouldn't be surprised in the least that Google "doesn't like them" as much.

What's more important is .com is the default that people try if they can't remember your exact address right away and try to go direct. But, that would be for non-SEO purposes...
