Buying domains for SEO

I'm trying to get into building my own network of sites for SEO. I have a good idea of the theory behind, just no experience yet. I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on any though, as I can't seem to find anything decent with PR 3, 4, or 5. I'm looking mainly on digital point's domain buying section, however I'm finding most of the domains have sketchy backlinks and looks like they will lose their PR on the next update.

I've searched a bunch of the auction sites like godaddy, but I just don't know the best way to go about it. Anyone doing this successfully have any tips?

Terry Kyle has a lot of info on domain buying for SEO. Have you read his stuff?

It takes a lot of work finding good ones. You have to look at all the backlinks to make sure they are something that will stick.

I'm to the point where I'd get more excited about a DMOZ listing than PR. PR just takes time and work.

Yes, I've read his stuff and I'm familiar with his recommendations. I was just looking for some input from other people doing it successfully. Right now I do have a few bids on a few domains on godaddy, PR4's. I used dropday.com to find them, as using godaddy to try to find them takes a ton of time. I'm on the trial for dropday right now, but it seems like a pretty good service. I know there is freshdrop as well but I'm not experienced enough yet to spend 100/month on it.

I guess the biggest problem I'm having is finding good ones, but I guess that's the real challenge for everyone, isn't it...

I might be pointing out the obvious here, but have you tried Flippa. They do domains and complete sites...

Flippa removed the domain section so looking for domains can be a pain.

It takes research and there are more and more people doing it now, when people like Terry Kyle spill the beans on their method it unfortunately creates more demand. This mean the higher hanging fruit gets picked more quickly.

That's always the problem in IM.

I think there's a lot of hidden value in Digital Point domains, providing you do your research.

I'm releasing an add on to the site in the next couple weeks that will parse, check and index domains on forums similar to how we do with websites at present.

Digital Point is a minefield. The best way to use that is to find a seller there you can trust and work with them offline. Otherwise you end up doing due diligence on both the domains and the sellers.

One seller I encountered had a large portfolio of PR3-5 domains. But when you did the due diligence via Spyglass you found that the domains had maintained PR by being interconnected with one another, and most of their backlinks were no longer present. You have to be wary of this kind of fraud on DP.
