Hey everyone. Our homepage for some reason is not ranking for kw it used to. Site is 3yrs old, an pr3. Homepage, an just our homepage has not be showing up for keywords for over 2 months now. We are were thinking give it sometime may come back, nope. It's not even showing up for its page name. But its #1 in G site:myurl.com Also it gets cached every 1-2 days. It used to rank very well before. Could this be that our back links got devalued? I don't know what to do. If back links got devalued, im not sure how to go about trying to fix the issue. I don't want to dig the site in the hole deeper. Chime in on this.
Thanks

    Hey Mike,

There can be several reasons why a site loses ranking for a keyword(s), here are some of the things you can check:

    1. Check your existing back links (if you have Google Webmaster Tools, check there and know that those aren't ALL the links). Also, check Yahoo's indexed links...you can go directly to Yahoo Site Explorer, or use a free tool such as Backlinkwatch.com. This will give you an idea of the # of links pointing to your site, and the anchor text (ie. keywords) that are linking to your site.

    2. "Site" Syntax - If you type "site:yoururl.com" you should always show up #1...the "site" operator will show you all the individual pages on your site that are indexed by google. If you just type in your domain ex. "yoursite.com" your site should also be the top position since it's aged...but you'll also probably additional sites in the ranking page that aren't yours. This is because the results are for all pages with references to your site, vs. "site" which only shows pages your your domain.

    3. Backlinks - If you don't have a lot of backlinks (see point #1), then you'll want to consider focusing on targeted backlinks for the keyword(s) you're trying to rank for. There are hundreds of folks/services offering backlinking, just make sure you pick a reputable place (cheap isn't always good).

Hope this is a bit helpful....good luck!

    - Jeff

Start creating a backlink campaign for your keywords, try the 'Warriors For Hire' section of this forum, I use Warriors all the time that do backlinking for me and I rank for most keywords. Try it!

Analyze your old backlinks and focus on your targeted keywords that you want to rank for, maybe you overlooked something in your page optimization.

Hello fella's, We have used the yahoo for a look at our backlinks but their's only 1k. We checked G with the Site: commad already. We are #1. We constantly build back links. In our G WMT its showing 5200+. The thing is that we ranked on the first page for our most competitive KW;s for over 10 months up until 2 months ago, when this happend.
