I got lucky and purchased the exact keyword targeting a keyword that has over 74000 searches per month. But the problem is it is a .org domain so may look a bit odd.I am planning to do an SEO campaign on it.I have a question like how easy or difficult is it to rank no.1 for that specific keyword. How long will it take for my domain name to rank no.1 for that keyword term?

That will depend on how stiff the present competition is on Google's first page. Those are the ten listings you have to beat.

Many other factors will come into play. Your onsite optimization, quantity, quality and age of your backlinks, site structure, content, etc. Also, are the exact domain name ".com" and ".net" versions on Page 1? If so, they could be your toughest competitors.

BTW, when you say 74000 searches per month, where are you getting that figure from? If it's from Google's Keyword Tool, is that Broad, Phrase or Exact Match?

Many people get excited with a huge number of Broad Match searches, but quickly face reality when they look at the Phrase and Exact Match numbers.

Yea, JoeCool said it. Just analyze the top 3 and see how "stiff" the competition is.

    Hi Rajanpanicker,

its nice that you found a keyword, that you believe is beatable and has an extremely high globacl search count. As other before me suggested you must check a.) was it exact global search count ? b.) what do the top 10 sites on google look like.

For the latter I tend to use Market Samurai ( havent found a better alternative, nor do I need one. ) It shows me exactly what I need to know : the top 10 , their PR, their Backlinks ( all of them I can visit ), their numbers of indexed pages on the domain, their onsite optimization....

Having a keyword in the domain is just a small piece of the puzzle. It helps, but I wouldnt quit my day job ( <- its a saying , I dont have a day job of course ), because they can be easily overtaken. I have blasted keyword.com,.net,.org with some of my HUBS let alone my sites.

What will it take to get to the top :

    1.) Patience
2.) a lot of quality backlinks, added EVENLY and slowly ( 1 a day is nice and healthy )
    3.) Patience
4.) Quality & Unique content on the page itself
    5.) Patience

I trust, that you have figured out what I emphasize the most

    Good luck on your journey.

    Sincerely, Buyseech

You recommend uilding one link a day. Wow you have a lot more patience than me.

If the site is not new, then you can throw a hell of a lot more than one a day at it.

I second the input of "Buyseech".

You will know exactly how much competition there is by analyzing top 10 sites by finding "Pagerank, Backlinks Pointing to them, No of indexed pages, Age of the domain and Onsite optimization". Though there are lot's of other factors, they are the major ones.

About the backlinks, if it's a new site than slowly build the links till 3 - 4 months then after that you can go fast. Just keep adding content and keep on building variety of backlinks.
