Am testing a few things on a sales page so would need to send a very decent amount of traffic to a given webpage for the testing to yield decent results

How do you send a "BURST" of traffic to a given page?

Don't mind it it's slightly more expensive than what you would pay under BAU circumunstances, it just needs to be a quite big amount in a short time.

PPC is an obvious one..any specific suggestions (AdWords, Bidvertiser, etc)..

Once initial optimization is done it can just revert to the usual forms of traffic..

Thanks a lot

You can use Adwords...do some research on topic first because you can lose your ace if don't do it right.

Articles are another source that can bring in short bursts but sounds like you need to have the mother load of traffic to yield some good testing results.

The only way that I really know to do this is to pay for it...try yahoo advertising or PPC.

    Create interesting content.
    Add to Stumbleupon and Digg.
You should get at least 10,000 hits over the next week (assuming your content is mediocre, but still interesting).

    No massive burst of traffic?
    Your content wasn't interesting enough.
Try again. Always works if you know to work your creativity.

A massive burst is easily achievable with Solo Ads or if you have a list an Adswap.

To get the big burst on a new site paying for ppc or ads will probably do it.
I always get a good rush of traffic from a Twitter campaign with software to tweet every 3-4 minutes.

Other than that it is the slow and solid road of SEO.

Well said Bill....not sure there is a way to get get quick bursts of traffic, but the reliable way of SEO is a good start. Unless you want to pay for your traffic or write some good content for DIGG or SU.

What about creating a couple of banner ads to place on other sites? This costs money, but can be very effective if you put them on the right sites.

Good luck and let me know how the testing comes along.
