Hey all,

I am working on an article that describes the easiest, fastest ways to get your new site indexed by search engines. (can be found here: 5 Easy & Effective Ways to Get Your Website Found By Search Engines | Internet Marketing (The Easy Way!))

For the anyone new too SEO, please enjoy the article and let me know what you think.

Anyone who has been doing SEO for a while... I need your help to improve the article! What other techniques do you know to get search engines to find your sites FAST?

Submitting to Google Blog search has always been the winner for me. Once they pick it up, seems to go everywhere, and if you have a lot of content, they'll pick it up fast.

Looking forward to feedback, responses, additions, etc

Dan

I know some authority seo sites where they think submitting your url is a waste of time.

    This is what they say:
    • If you submitted your site/article on popular sites that are crawled regularly like Digg.com for example will get your site crawled quickly (in a matter of hours).
    • For yahoo, send an email containing your url, with your yahoo account and clicking on the link form your inbox, will send the yahoo spider to your site.

Dan, this is no knock on you but the issue of getting a website indexed fast has been worn out to the extinct that another article and/or thread on the subject is about as interesting and informative as another article on:
      • How to get a email address super fast
      • How to get a WordPress blog real fast
      • How to find a search engine
      • How to buy a .com domain name
      • The best place to find free email
      • How to open a Facebook account
      • How to open a Twitter account
      • How to turn on your computer
      • How to turn off your computer
      • How to find McDonald's restaurant
      • How to microwave a Marie Callendar's Sweet 'N Sour chicken meal
It's gotten to the point that people are:
(a). Writing needless steps that are amounting to colossal overkill to the ninth degree. This past week we had yet another get indexed fast thread; that OP suggested that people make videos, write articles, tweet 12 or so tweets and a whole host of other steps that would have them spending around 8 to 9 hours just to get indexed...
b). Creating a false aura that getting indexed fast is going to have some type of positive impact on their rankings or ability to get website traffic.
In all honestly, getting a new site indexed fast carries about as much SEO weight as launching a Firefox browser super duper fast. What's the benefit of this race to beat the get indexed fast clock?

I'll tell you what it is; the person pats themselves on the back and makes the boast, "I got my site indexed in three hours, whohoo!!!" But then what? They struggle for the next year or two trying to figure out how to get website traffic.

Getting a site indexed has become a monotonous, mundane, cut and dry process. In a nutshell, you ping and bookmark the site and you're done!

Any other actions prescribed with the intent of getting a site indexed is pretty much overkill. These articles and threads on this particular subject are starting to sound like someone writing an article or starting a thread entitled, "I'll show you how to turn on a bathroom light REAL FAST!"

      What?

      Are you kidding me?

Why not just hit the on switch?

Again, this is no knock on you, because you can be guaranteed, before this week is over, we'll see another batch of threads about getting indexed super fast.

Hey Giles, thanks for your well thought out and thorough response.

I agree with you that getting your website indexed fast is not a solution for getting better rankings immediately; on the other hand, with so many people publishing content online these days, getting your information out on search engines first can be the difference between having your content shared & distributed or having it ripped off and ignored.

        To illustrate my point:

An old colleague of mine owns NetLingo The Internet Dictionary

Through properly submitting her website to search engines and search engine services (like Google's blog search) she was able to be among the first to be indexed for information on "Sexting" (a relatively unknown term at the time of publishing)--all of a sudden, "Sexting" became a buzz word over night when it was publicized that teens were doing it all over the United States. Because Erin (owner of Netlingo.com) was among the first to get indexed for that information, her site was quoted in the news, linked to and traffic shot up.

If she had waited weeks for her site to be indexed and hadn't gotten into Google's blog feed which allowed her articles to be indexed instantly, she may have fallen behind on this trend and missed out on a ton of national exposure (she appeared on several nationally syndicated TV shows as a result of "getting there first").

My point is: You never know what content on your site is going to attract attention & being first on the line is always better than an attitude of "getting there when you get there."

I also agree with you that going to such lengths as creating videos, submitting articles, etc purely to get indexed are excessive (although those are good things to do anyways)-- I don't believe my article falls into that category-- the methods I describe are easy to do, fast and highly effective at getting content indexed and keeping the crawlers up-to-date on new content on your site (so that new content is crawled regularly).

Had Erin not gone to the lengths she did to ensure her site was indexed and crawled regularly, someone else who read her site might have posted an article on "sexting" and gotten all of the attention for it.

I don't think this example is limited to news sites, dictionary sites or the like-- even the average small business website can benefit from getting their content available on search engines as soon as possible. Not doing so would be like waiting until tomorrow (or next week, as is often the case) to do something we could easily do today.

Get there first! Get there faster! That's how competition works.

Again thanks a lot for the thoughtful response. Let the debate continue

        Dan

I've found that sometimes it can be a matter of timing.

You can go through the same procedure time and time again but not each new site gets indexed in the same timeframe. I have no idea why - maybe the spiders have a daily routine and a backlog of places to go so if you happen to submit your site to digg (or wherever) when the spiders are not busy you will get indexed fast but if he has a lot in his "in box" it might take a few days.

I don't really monitor it too closely anymore anyway, i just put the stuff up, do the back linking and then move on. They all eventually get indexed.

Dan, you actually just agreed with me and then eloquently proved my point with your illustration.

Dan, in terms of SEO, your illustration is actually an anomaly and I believe you know that. First, most IMers are not looking to do media interviews. Secondly, try any of those fast indexing techniques with these keywords: make money online, work at home, and dating advice or any competitive keywords or keyword phrases and see where they get you.

But most importantly, look at how your illustration played out. Yes, she may have temporarily made to the top of the SERPs and received some media play but as of today, parsing my Google data center, she's on page 5 in the 7th spot in the SERPs.

In SEO, sitting on page 5 in the SERPs is like owning a Salomon Sentinel Ski shop in the middle of the Sahara Desert. Its a great product but skiers are going to have a hard time finding that shop until the owners move near a bona fide ski resort. In other words, they need to move up in the SERPs to be seen. For that keyword, "Sexting" your friend is now going to need to perform OFF Page SEO in order to move up in the SERPs. Otherwise she will remain in the desert as far as that keyword was concerned.

Moreover, if getting high in the SERPs in a quick manner is the goal, it's best to use:
(a). Your own network of GNews sites
      (b). Your own self-hosted video site(s)
(c). Your own Quick Strike Social Bookmarking network
Standard indexing, which includes all of the techniques people have been writing about lately are not the best business model for any IMer focused or intent getting indexed rapidly due to the fact that they are targeting a specific market in a short time window of opportunity.

In all honestly, the ping and bookmarking method will work for virtually 93% to 97% of all IMers. For that group, as I've stated previously, any actions above and beyond that [just to get indexed fast] is pretty much colossal overkill.

I hear you Dan, but if you polled IMers, you will find that getting indexed is not one of their top issues/concerns. Their top concerns are getting laser targeted traffic, obtaining rankings on the first page of the SERPs and converting their traffic and how to effectively market to their lists.

Although she is sitting on page 5 for that specific term, the inbound links (providing good rankings for other terms) and media attention she got from "being there first" increased her traffic exponentially.

You make some good points, especially in regards to using Goog News sites and self hosted video sites--those are two techniques i rely on heavily. Standard indexing won't get you #1 spots overnight (and if it does, like you pointed out, you won't keep them without aggressive link building).

Keep in mind though that I wrote the article for beginners (who don't even know how to submit a sitemap, much less create a goog news site or self hosted video site).

By no means am I saying that getting indexed fast is the full battle, but it's just one more thing you can do to give you an edge on your competition (using the netlingo example, if she had gone on an aggressive linkbuilding campaign for that keyword after getting picked up in the news and on other sites in that short period she would most likely have stayed on top).

But you are right, for the purpose of most IMers who are simply looking to sell an ebook while a topic is hot standard indexing will solve little (especially in niches that already have a lot of information available on them, where there is little unique informative value for them to add).

Anyways, I will agree to disagree, you have definitely made some good points. Thx for the continued interest and feedback.

Actually Dan, we are not disagreeing!

The move your friend made that rendered those media contacts and traffic is a savvy move... that worked because of the virgin nature of the term, "Sexting!"

Personally, I've never used that particular method but I can see how it would work. As they say in the the Guinness beer commercial, "Brilliant!"

Oh, and as far as your article, it's good!

My only initial point was in general reference to the number of methods individuals have been posting for the average IMer to get their site indexed.
