Is this how backlinks work?

Hello,

Lets say i want to rank for "keyword". I google this key with quotes, and then insert the fifth position result into yahoo site explorer.

I get 5 inlinks - now if create 5 backlinks with say yahoo answers, forums posts, blog comments, articles etc.

Will i rank on the front page? Is this how backlinks work?

    With the specified link building methods there i think you can have your backlinks just make sure that your linking strategies are good quality and related to other sites that you want to connect.

    A back link is a one way link that point's to your site. Obviously, the ideal back link has your keyword, used as anchor text to your site.

    You should look at a lot of factors - number of backlinks to the page, anchor text used in the backlinks to the page, number of backlinks to the site, pagerank of the site and page, domain age, etc.

    So, to answer your question, no, it's not as straight forward as "They have 5 backlinks, I'll outrank them if I get 6 backlinks".
