Long Tail Keyword Density

Is there anyone that can elaborate on long tail keyword density? I'm a little confused and need some clarification for my articles.

For example if I have a 700 word article and a 3 word long tail keyphrase such as " I love you", how often should I mention this in the article to have a density of around 3%.

Thanks,

kbs

In my opinion, you should worry less about density and just write naturally. Read your article aloud, and you'll easily be able to notice whether you're saying it too much. If it sounds natural, the density is probably fine.

(Incidentally 3% is rather high, anyway. Some article directories will even automatically reject that, just with their software, and not let you submit it. Take your tip from that and keep your writing more natural. ).

But for the record, 1% means "once in 100 words". So 3% keyword density in 700 words would be 21 instances. Which would not read well.

The length of the keyword itself doesn't change this. (You do appreciate that "long tail keywords" are not called "long tail" because they're multiple-word keywords? It's true that some/many long-tail keywords do also tend to be long in word-count, but that's a coincidence which confuses many people, and isn't intrinsically connected to their name, which derives from the concept of "the long tail", itself a reference to a statistical function.)
I came up w/ the same math on that one and though to myself that repeating the keyphrase 21 times would look rather silly. I think the article reads well and the keywords are well placed, so I think I'll go with it.

        Thanks

Totally agree with you, be natural!
And the density is depending on the main topic of your article! The keyword density can be a bit more if the keyword is your main topic!

    700 words divided by 3, times 3% = 7 times

At least that is the way I figure it, then I just ignore it.

I write my articles to read easily, try to use my phrase a few times in the article, and use other commonly searched phrases in the article, also. Always with the primary intent of making sure the reader will enjoy the content and read it all the way until.......CLICK

P.S. After reading Alexa's post I'm sure glad I ignore my own rule.

I find that writing naturally gets me ranked for things I didn't expect. That said I will sometimes look at things like the Google keyword tool to make sure I don't miss important phrases that easily fit into my article.

You should take help of any software as well which allows you to check keyword density.

If your article is between 300 to 500 words then you can put 2 keywords in article for better density.

I think you can increase the density of your main keyword in your article to %3-%5 too. So in this case you can repeat your keyword about 20-30 times in your article. But the best choice in my opinion is something around 15 times.

I wouldnt worry about it too much just as long as its in the title and 1 or 2 mentioned in content. But if you want to divide yr self from the masses and get better results in serps for that keyword check yr competitions density and over ride it and link to a big authority site.
