Hi

I have an aged domain name - it's over 5 years old and luckily I managed to secure it through a back order.

I'm trying to get this domain name ranked in Google.co.uk for sell house quickly (quite a competitive phrase) however, using Posterous network I have been posting fresh content to site and been consistently building 70/80 backlinks per day via blog posts, forum, Q&A, article marketing via ezine, social book marks etc.

After a week, I managed to build a very good 325 backlinks and yesterday Google "slapped" me and decided to get ride of 170+ backlinks in one flash. I heard that this is normal, but can someone tell me if this was because I was building "too many" backlinks within a short period (one week) even though they were consistent or because of use of Posterous network "duplicate content"?

Your thoughts much appreciated.

You're over-analyzing. Just continue to get links, especially links from authority sites when you can, and to publish keyword relevant content.

Don't get consumed about counting your links and such, especially on a day to day basis. It's a good way to develop a case of stat-itis that can bloom into a full-blown case of analysis paralysis.

I agree with the others, keep building quality backlinks and fresh content, and you'll be good to go.

      thanks fellows for your replies.

I am continuing to build good quality backlinks. The site ranking # 1 currently has over 4,000 backlinks (fortunately they aren't building any more) so they are awaiting to be overtaken by me. Also, my domain is older by 1 year, and is a TLD keyword rich domain unlike theirs.

will let you know how I get on.

In the meantime, I'm posting content to WP site on a regularly basis, I do this with backlinks (deeplinks) within my site and usually use Posterous network to do this, does this matter that my posts go on Blogger, Plurk and my own site with same content - all at once or not?

I was told in the Challenge that this is not the case so I'm assuming they are right?

Robert, I think google is coming down hard on backlinking activity - it knows there are sfotware tools out there that marketers are using to up their rank, so even if you're doing this manually they're going to take a dim view of what you're doing. Perhaps spread the load - i.e. instead of backlinking hard for one site, do the same for 4 and that way you'll be going at each site at a quarter of the speed.

Thanks guys - points noted and will be followed upon. Perhaps I go at a slightly slower pace and spread the load. The only problem is that it will take a lot longer than I anticipated.
