Best way to make money with adsense - don't use adsense!!!

Hi guys and gals,

The words in the title were the the ones that finally made me understand what internet marketing is. After a bit over one year of building couple niche sites that were getting between 100-150 unique visitors a day but making couple cents every other day with adsense I stumbled upon a video by Pat Flynn of smartpassiveincome.com with a title similar to what I said here.

That was a month and a half ago and since that day I've removed adsense from my sites and wrote two pluigins for a larger piece of software that would help the people in the respective niche work way faster. This coming Monday it will be one month since I've launched the first one with no preselling, no list, no traffic, no squeeze page (mostly because I had no idea about that part of marketing), just a simple HTML page (no wordpress as I wanted to launch the darn thing faster rather than redesigning my website) showing the features in a few images and demo videos.

The results:
- traffic on my plugins pages - 4,940 unique visitors with 6,178 visits and 13,594 pageviews - the only thing I did for traffic was to put the scripts in the news pages of the related forums and tweet about them a couple times.
- sales - $1269!!!

Don't think it was easy as it wasn't, it was a lot of hard work making sure those plugins will work flawlessly and that the documentation for them is top notch. Once the sales have started, I've got some bug reports and support emails that I strived to answer within couple hours from receiving them. Also one thing I haven't expected was the flood of emails with simple questions regarding the possible uses as all of that was explained pretty well on the sales page... But no matter how simple the question was I answered as soon as I could in a very professional manner.

Now, looking backwards, all I can say is if you want to make money with adsense, get rid of it!!!

I hope this helps somebody,
Anton

Congrats on the success! And I've got to agree with you 100%. There are so many ways to monetize a site. Adsense works well for some, but for the vast majority, what I've found is that there are other options that pay out a LOT more than Adsense, even other ad networks that blow Adsense away.

A lot of it depends on the niche. Some niches/keywords are ideal for Adsense because there are few, if any, affiliate or CPA offers that are a good match and that aren't a good option for digital products either. I generally look at potential monetization options for a set of keywords first before I buy a domain and certainly well before I slap just any kind of advertising on the site.

This is pretty much going to be a learning lesson compliments of Anton because of this seemingly adamant/passionate statement...

Anton, when you examine Google's 2010 Financial Tables - Google Investor Relations, you will find that the majority of their revenue comes from advertising, (i.e., Adsense and Adwords).

Now carefully mull over this staggering figure...

Google (GOOG) released its third quarter earnings today and showed that the company keeps marching ahead on its own schedule. Although non-ad revenues grew some, even after dropping the expensive Nexus One smartphone, Google remains a business completely in thrall to the advertising model. At $7.3 billion, quarterly revenue was up 22.6 percent year-over-year. Revenue for the first nine months of the year was 23 percent up from 2009. Total expenses for the first nine months were up roughly 21 percent, so, as you'd expect, net income was also up.
Seven point three billion but you assert, that one cannot make money with Adsense???

    C'mon Anton????!!!!

Reading that, a more appropriate statement may have been something along the lines of, "I, Anton had some serious issues with generating income with Adsense and eventually gave up on it."

Anton, I make money with Adsense. My sites generate no less than $1,000.00 per month, per site on auto pilot. I don't have to update them or change, update or swap links. I don't have to track advertisers, collect payments or embed or cloak URLs. Because they are all static HTML sites, there are no plugin issues, no WP platform upgrades and no hacking concerns.

FACTOID: When a person learns how to master Adsense, it's easy street. But getting to that address is what throws a lot of IMers for a loop.

I hate to hear that you gave up on a awesome income stream but your statement is WAY over the top and so far from the truth that it is hilarious. I'm sure Google investors are chuckling.

The lesson to be learned is a rather simple one... just because "1" person fails at a particular goal, dream or objective doesn't mean that all others will fail also.

Shall we condemn the NFL or shall every team give up their Super Bowl hopes just because the Detroit Lions keep losing?

If we believe your ideology on giving up, then shouldn't the Texas Rangers have given up their dream of playing in World Series 50 years ago?

Anton, Adsense is a winner and a major money maker; the truth is you never learned how to master it.

I'm glad to see that you are succeeding in another IM marketing money stream and I wish you much success... but trying to discourage others from participating in that 7.3 billion dollar money stream that flows freely every quarter is just mind boggling.
