I have a company doing our SEO and while I am learning I wondered if there methods where borderline spam black hat, I don't want the website to be band or anything or effect it beyond repair, they do the following

Link building Directory submissions 100 – 200 a month
Articles and article submission sent out to some decent places (Usually spun from blogs they make for the site) 4 per month
4 blogs for the site a month
We have 4 blogs on different c class servers with 2 posts going to each every month (Same posts) and these point to my site and other sites (to help cover the link path) also I think these will be used for link exchanges in the future.
Social bookmarking creation and posts (25 created a month and 2 posts going to each)
Twitter account made and script to run backlinks to help google find our backlinks
Blog comments 20 a month
Web 2.0 posts 100 a month (Usually pretty much the same article)
Profile accounts created with link back to site (different keywords) 100 a month
Classified ads 1 a month
Press realise 1 a month

and also to build long term they try to get around 10 good pr links a month.

Does this sound like good work?

I HIGHLY suggest you read the thread I just started.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...wrong-way.html

You stated that you're putting identical posts on more than one site...every month? Bad idea, you should strive for unique content.

You mention a lot of duplicate content posting there, you might want to have a look around the forum, for SEO advice.

I understand what you are saying but the SEO guy is sending these out to around 75 article places so some I can understand the spinning.

Regards to the whole package is this a good way to achieve rankings and is any of this going to get us blacklisted on google.

        No.
You're not getting blacklisted- it's legitimate.

All-in-all, other than the duplicating content, it's a decent strategy.

When submitting the same article to multiple sources ensure that it is reordered and reworded slightly.

  • I think what is being done is not a bad idea. Even if there are duplicate posts, search engines can determine the original owner/source of the posts. Other posts can still be displayed in search engine results but preference will be given to the real source of the posts.

    Bob66,

    Questions:

How long have you been using this strategy?

Are you achieving the desired results you seek? (increased traffic, leads, opt-ins, etc.)

What is the quality of the results you are experiencing, or lack of?

In all honesty and fairness to you, the only way you can tell if this is a good service, is to track the results, split test, etc.

It sounds like you're getting a lot, for whatever the cost, but the true measure is always in the results.

First of all, don't think about this as a particular hat color or even SEO. Just think of it as promoting your business and are the methods used compatible with your promotional efforts.

Next, I'm assuming here that you're talking about a business site, which may or may not have an offline component, and not a niche affiliate marketing site. The strategies are different depending on what you're trying to do.

Generally not worth all that much SEO wise but completely OK

Since you're promoting your business/brand I'd recommend avoiding spinning and concentrate on putting out articles that add to your reputation. Spinning has its place but when you're promoting your business you don't want to use it because it can make you look stupid unless a lot of care is taken.

Do you mean 4 blog posts a month on your site? That would be OK although I'd recommend at least matching your online promotion with your offline promotion. For example, if you did a weekly mailer, duplicate it online. Also I'd recommend running online only specials to generate interest in your site.

It sounds like they're suggesting a link wheel of sorts. First of all, I'd recommend avoiding the link exchange part. That can come back to bite you easily. Secondly, 4 blogs won't mean that much unless they happen to be authority domains in their own right (unlikely).

I think you would have better success trying to contact bloggers in your area/niche and see if they'll write about your site rather than trying to fake it. It's not to say the suggested technique is bad but that you'll get more promotion for your brand/business by interaction.

These are not so good for your business reputation. This can get your site flagged as a link spammer with the affected sites which isn't good (Google doesn't really care that much one way or the other). This kind of linking can be useful but I'd recommend against it in this context.

Twitter and Facebook can be useful for reputation marketing but you need to avoid blatant link spamming.

OK as long as it fits with your business.

This should be OK although don't expect huge results from this alone.
