M. Samurai Keyword Research-Broad or Exact?

The new presets at M. Samurai are set at Keyword Research-Broad, all Dr Fernando's tutorials on KW research are always Broad match.

But every time I ask colleagues in all the forums about this matter, all choosing "Exact"
What is your opinion and what are your settings for KW analysis if they are different than the Golden Rules or Long Tail presets?

Thank you

With ms you actually get both sets of results. The others are pertaining to using other free tools that do not provide half as much info as ms does like googles keyword tool. When ever I use googles keyword tool for finding my keywords and not ms I always look for the keywords with more then 1000 searches for the exact term. However this is not needed with ms because it does al the work for you with many of the tools it provides. Also if you where to export your findings on the keywords you would notice that it shows broad and exact seperate. Which is what makes ms that much more powerful than many of the other keyword tools out there. I actually just started using it my self about 3 months ago and wish I would have started using when I first got started. Ms would have saved me a ton of time and flustration from all the bad keywords I have chosen over the years.

I always use exact with keyword research. The broad and phrase results are more for adwords bidding and such.

SEOT and SEOC are going to depend on your skill and niche. If you're going after a really tiny niche, you may want to turn the SEOT way down. If you're going after popular keywords, the amount of SEO competition (SEOC) is going to be higher than your average micro niche.

For Ed Dale's "The Challenge" (formerly "30 Day Challenge"), which uses Market Samurai, the parameters are set to 80 SEOT and 30,000 SEOC. That program is for newbies creating their first niche site, so that's probably a good jumping-off point.

check out market samurai video guides where they do keyword research, I am not sure how accurate or how "niche" the set parameters are but it does explain what the parameters are.

          Very Thorough explanation!

And what about SEOC and SEOT are you using with Exact search, please?

Do you use for your primary KW SEOT= 80 & SEOC <30,000 or not?

          Myself, I use SEOT= 33 (to reach a monthly 1,000) & SEOC <100,000 with Exact for primary.

          Thank you

Always go for the Exact match type.

With SEOT, under Exact Match type, 300 SEOT is already a good number with high PBR value. SEOC- For newbies set it to 30,000. Sometimes, I make considerations, like if SEOT is somehow low, let say 100 daily, you may want to check SEOV and AWCPC if it has value and very high PBR of at least 80% I give it a go.

Again, competition analysis is another story.

It all depends on what you actually want to see from the results.. Use broad match when you want to see how the keywords are used in different combinations and as part of other keyword phrases. This is useful for seeing the scope that a keyword phrase actually has in a global way. Phrase and exact are more useful for seeing the actual number of searches conducted for that particular keyword phrase.

If you see a low number of exact searches and a high number of broad searches then you can pretty much assume that the keyword phrase might need rearranging or changing in your content to attract more visitors.

Wow, I just made a post about this on my blog.

jacksonsmarketingtraining.com/blog » Are You Making This Keyword Research Mistake?

I explain in detail how the match types work.

    I ONLY use EXACT.

Broad gives you numbers that get you way too excited for no real reason.

    Yes, I learned the hardway!

My understanding is this: MS uses BROAD to give you the long term appproach numbers, because it's part of their philosophy; while EXACT gives you short term approach numbers.

My philosphy is to use EXACT, because I figure if I like EXACT, I'll love BROAD.

    Too much fluff here gents!

More numbers and examples, please: "It all depends on what you actually want to see from the results."

What kind of question is that?

I want to find KW's to make sites based on: Primary, secondary and colateral or related.
