I am going to venture out and actually purchase some things today.

do you need to purchase a domain name & hosting account?

I am planning on launching several sites at once.

    if the several sites you want to purchase are live sites with domain names, you don't need to purchase a domain name. The domain name will be part of the deal. If the seller just wants to sell the content of the sites without the domain name, you would have to purchase a domain name.

    In all cases, you would need to get a hosting account for the sites if you dont have one already. in some cases, website sellers give free hosting for you to continue to host the sites on their servers till the buyer gets his own hosting.
