Do you follow your Alexa ranking?

Hi everyone -

I've been reading the forum for about a month now and am overwhelmed by all the great information shared by everyone. So today I signed up and also joined the War Room - I've got enough to read to keep me busy for weeks.

On to the question - I've got a site that I've been working on part-time for about 2 years and recently transitioned to a new domain (hopefully a step up). The Alexa ranking on the old site was around 400,000 globally. The new one is at about 2.1 million. I hope to keep it moving up in the rankings, but is this something you think is worth watching?

What I'd really like to know - how do you determine how much traffic is associated with a given ranking? For example, at 400k, I was getting about a thousand hits / month. Any idea what I'd get at 100k, or 20k?

Last thing - what is an attainable ranking by someone working part-time on a site. I know I've got a lot of work to do (backlinks, articles, and more), but is it possible (or even easy) to make it in the top 100,000, 50,000, or even 10,000?

I've got a background in designing web-apps for larger companies, so thought I'd give it a try for myself. But I'm certainly a newbie at internet marketing and look forward to continued learning with this forum.

thanks, and nice to meet ya'll,
-w

I can honestly say I've never checked the Alexa rankings on any of my websites.

Replying now that I've figured out how to include my website in my signature for reference and a photo (sorry for the rookie mistake!).

I think it was a year ago since i checked my alexa rankings for my sites. It's not a major factor imo to keep your eye out for. I just monitor where my sites are in the serps as this is what brings in traffic to my sites and ultimately, money...

Some people swear alexa rank has something to do with google rankings. To me that is hard to believe. Alexa rank is easily manipulated and some do so for some reason to get higher alexa rank. I don't see the point. But, if you have legit alexa rank that is good than it could be a slight plus for your site or sites.

That is entirely based on your own efforts. If you can rank your sites high in the serp's and get that constant flow of traffic there is no reason why you couldn't be in the top 100,000.

Alexa ranking doesn't mean much... I have sites with a lower alexa ranking than others but they are getting a lot more traffic.
