Blog commenting discussion

Some people say to put your anchor text in the field where it says "name" but I think that it is more likely to get your comment deleted and not approved. But then again, I don't want a bunch of links back to my site that say "Jennifer".

What is your opinion?

If you're making blog comments, you should have anchor text that sounds like a person.

"Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Plumber" would probably be just fine.

"Thick Yoga Mats" would probably not.

"Penis Viagra Penis Cialis Penis Penis Penis" would definitely not.

I'm on a few legal blogs with frequent commenters that have
"City State Profession" names. Nobody minds, so long as the comment is good.

      Agreed,

I think your main concern should be that you provide worthwhile comments. As long as you are contributing some sort of info, moderators are usually lenient (provided that you don't go overboard with the anchor text).

Posts like "Great Info! I will share with everyone! usually get deleted

I have a several high traffic blogs and 9 times out of 10 I don't care if your comment is the best comment I ever read.. I do not allow keywords. I also probably don't like you or web site after you try it either. BUT if you leave a quality comment and it says Jennifer @ and then your web site name I will usually allow it... if it is a relevant niche. No Forex on my pregnancy sites, etc. Or I may edit it to just show your name. Blog comments are for genuine discussion, building community, and networking IMO not for getting spammy links onto a blog some other person takes pride in.

I always put Andy@PowerBlogTactics I always think that it leaves a stronger link. The most important thing though is the comment. You have to make sure you read the post. In fact I never leave a comment unless I am genuinely interested in what the post is about.

In addition to risking deletion, I would guess that since blog comment links aren't given as much weight as other types such as links in content, the anchor text boost also wouldn't be very high. This makes me think you're better off just using your name and not going for your exact keywords.

But that said, it might be worthwhile to go for a mix between the two. Maybe you could come up with some sort of nickname type thing that includes at least some of your keywords? Then at least it wouldn't just be "Jennifer."

Maybe I could just go "Jennifer from keyword" (which is also my site name)

This is the best method of placing your link put this into the web address box:

    John Smith|site address

Obviously you would use your name instead of John Smith

you might try something like bob @ your website name

and be sure to not leave a spammy comment.

It seems like there are so many spam comments on blogs these days that a lot of webmasters are in no hurry to approve and 99/100 it is a spam comment.

As a blog webmaster is is very easy to detect the spam comments and differentiate from a legit comment.
