I started a campaign where i only see 3 other advertisers in on the first page and I know one of them isnt paying much per clicks and yet mine is telling me that I need to pay in the $2 amount to be on page 1.

Is this google just trying to con me into spending more when i dont have too?

Google favors people who has been with them longer, if you are consistently first and receive a lot of clicks, they will actually adjust your Cost per click to reflect that.

Meaning google will reward you by lower how much you pay per click if you CTR is higher than your competitors.

People who are new to bidding on a keyword will initially have to spend more to be on the top.

Google does not favor those with them longer. They do favor those who provide quality ads. That's what the quality score is all about. Of course, the longer you're doing this, presumably you learn something. But you could do well right out of the gate if you do things right.

Work on getting higher click rates and your QS will go up. This will reduce your costs.

Quality ads AND a quality Landing Page AND correct ad groups.

I second the suggestion that you get a good course on PPC - else, sure as god made little apples, you are going to cost yourself money - maybe lots!

Are you new to Google Adwords? If you are, I suggest you pick up a book and learn how Adwords works first otherwise you might end up paying much more than you have to.
