Did A WSO Service Hurt My Rankings? Opinions?

Recently bought a 250 block comments from yousefgreat. seems that many did as well. at $20 i thought it reasonable. i declined his pinging service per his recommendation, hoping that many would be indexed naturally. Since then, keyword ranking #7 dropped to the 700's and is currently at 400 something. ive seen similar decline in several other keywords.
Wondering if anyone had similar results. Wondering if me pinging other angela profile links and UAW links may have hurt me. Either way, this does not seem like google dance BS because the poor ranking have persisted. I am concerned google associated these blog comments with spam and somehow penalized me although many would say that can/will not happen.
Does pinging generally help or hurt from your experience?
