Why I'm now using PPC as part of my SEO efforts

Pay Per Click (PPC) or more specifically Google Adwords has begun to play a bigger role in the creation of my new Network of Affiliate sites. While my focus with my new network is to achieve top 3 rankings for all my keywords through the use of my SEO techniques that I have developed and fine tuned over 6 years, as I have begun building many new sites PPC has begun to play a much larger role that it did during the management of my previous (now sold) network of affiliate sites.

For me, PPC has 4 primary functions in my network:

Optimizing landing pages for SEO by monitoring changes in Quality Score
Allows me to test the viability of new Niche Markets before investing too much time in hardcore SEO efforts
Gives my websites trust rank and gets them indexed much faster
Creates a reliable revenue stream during the first 3 months of a new site as it settles into a solid ranking in the Organic search results
I will go into more detail about each of these 4 points listed above in coming posts but they are all pretty well self explanatory.

One important thing to take away from some of the points above is that even once I achieve top organic rankings, if my ROI (Return on Investment) is Positive, that is My Earnings less my Ad spend from paid traffic is in the Green, I will continue to run my Ads. It is however important to measure this before you start getting organic traffic.

Below is an example of this for one of my new sites built on a domain that is only 3 weeks old.

From the picture above you can see that while I have managed to achieve a Number 1 organic ranking for this particular target keyphrase, I am still running my Ad which through fine tuning and optimization of landing page and in turn Google Adwords Quality score, I have got my ad displaying in the "Sweet spot" which in my experience deliveres a higher CTR (Click Through Rate) than a Number 1 PPC Ranking.

Above you can see a snapshot (Purged list) of a single days Ad spend for the website in question. As you can see I'm getting 70 clicks for $7.20 that is a little over $0.10 a click in what is an extremely competitive Niche inside Consumer Electronics. I have achieved this by getting a very high quality score, in most cases 10/10.

The screenshot above shows earnings for the same day as was taken for the Adwords campaign above it. As you can see I'm averaging $122/day with an Ad spend of just over $7.00 now that's what I mean by leaving my Ads running when they producing a good ROI.

So, in summary: Adwords can help in a number of different ways to turbo charge your SEO results and earnings when going into a new niche and since, for some reason, Adwords traffic converts higher than organic traffic, running Adwords can help increase your websites earning potential.

Cheers
Nick

You make some good points about testing the market before spending to much time on the SEO.
Thanks, yes it sure is a great ROI, something like 1600%.
For this site alone we are on target for a monthly Ad spend of $210
and a return of $3,600 for a net profit of $3390.

      Good times!

I'd say you got the system to work for you. Just don't get banned by Google for being human like I did.

This post is misleading. You are not averaging $100 on amazon from $7 of ad spend.

Your site is in the organic listings and I'm sure that accounts for the majority of the earnings.

Are you even using adwords conversion tracking? If not how can you know what sales are from organic efforts vs. adwords?

It is possible your adwords campaign is actually unprofitable.
