Pagerank and backlinks

I am a little confused about Google "linkjuice" and pagerank.

I know we should try and get backlinks from high PR sites, and there are many web 2.0 sites (not blogs) that have a good PR.

My problem is that I can see that the index page of these sites has a PR of 5 or 6, but the profile page, where the link actually resides, has a PR = 0

Does Google transfer the "linkjuice" from the index page with the PR = 6 or am I kidding myself, and I only get a backlink with PR = 0 ?

Thank you for any advice.

Peter

Tip: Check some of the older profiles on the website(s) you're posting. If they have a PR of more than 0 and have little/no posts - chances are your profile will receive its juice in some time.

a few tools i use: that will help your backlinks
i use BuildMyRank.com – Link Building Service Featuring High Quality One-Way Backlinks (not affiliate link) to add high pr posts for backlinks to my site. it is HIGHLY effecitve. they are very similar to linkvana except they provide better reporting and the cost is almost 1/3 of linkvana.

another thing to do is get some kind of software or online tool that will diagnose your chief competitiors site's backlinks. i use link-assistant seo powersuite tools to do this. but any less expensive tool you can do the same thing. just find their banklinks and the PR of those links and then mimic their linking strategy. this is also very effective in building ranks. both of these things take time however, so it's not a quick fix but over time you will see your ranks rise of course you would also have to make sure your site has all the on site factors to help your ranks, metas. lack of errors. etc etc

hope that helps. it works for me so i figured i would pass it along.

    good luck to you

Your PR-0 profile page will receive link juice from the web-site's main page. Google already respects such websites and seeing your content or link anywhere on their website helps your site. Its of course much better if you could get your link from a page with some PR.

      Hi nelaffiliate,

This is not always the case, it depends on internal link structure. Naturally, if the website's "main page" links directly to your profile page, then yes, this would be true, but most website's don't link their homepage directly to your profile page. So in most cases this is not true.

Again, Google doesn't index websites, they index individual pages. So getting a backlink from any page with PR, on any website, helps your page. The value of the backlink is weighted by the PR and Trust of the page where your backlink is placed, not the website. Since a newly created profile page has earned little trust and PR it doesn't help a lot unless that profile page is linked to by other pages that have earned PR and trust, which is then passed to the newly created profile page.

It should still benefit you in some way, as nelaffiliate said above google should give the page some respect. Of course just make sure the pages that the backlinks are on are relevant to the niche and what not.

      Hi Peter,

Your concern is completely valid. Google does not assign PR to sites, they assign PR to individual pages. Most people who are fixated on homepage PR have no clue how PageRank works and end up wasting a lot of time chasing their own tail.

Many profile pages will provide less PR benefit than if you had simply created a new page on your own website. Occasional you will find websites that feature profiles prominently on important pages of their website and those profiles can be very effective, however many websites provide no direct linking that transfers linkjuice. You simply cannot judge the value of profile pages without looking at the specifics of the individual page in question.

So why do so many folks fixate on homepage PR, probably because it's easy. That reminds me of a quote by Seth Godin: "Just because it's easy to measure doesn't mean it's important."
