Hi
I am trying to figure out why this site doesnt rank so well. Im trying to help a friend get his website ranked higher for 'anxiety hypnosis' on UK searches on Google. I have added quite a lot of backlinks for him, and ive used SEO quake to try and figure out what is stopping his site going any higher? its only moved 1 position with tons of links added??
My friends site has around 250 links and all the other results on the page dont have as many links/are not as old/not as high pr etc??
Ive got him rank up for a term with similar amount of searches so can anyone see why it wont go up anymore?
My friends site is hypno - nlp .com . Its got plenty of good points - an old site, PR 3, not loads of links but more than some of the others on the 1st page. Have i understood the SEO quake results in thinking that he has more links than the top site? if so i dont understand.

I know he doesnt have the url matching the search term but neither do a lot of the other sites.

I am doing this for free as i use backlinks to get my site up the ranks, but i am only a novice.

thanks

Maybe he's linking to websites that have been banned by Google?

I also think Google sees stuff like this as complete rubbish:

"Adswood, Adlington, Alderley Edge, Alsager, Altrincham, Appleton, Ashley, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Ashton-on-Mersey, Ashton under Lyme, Barton, Baguley, Belfast, Benchill, Beswick, Blackley, Blackrod, Bollington, Boothstown, Bolton, Bowdon, Bramhall, Bredbury, Billinge, Brinnington, Broadheath, Brooklands, Bucklow Hill, Burnage, Bury, Carrington, Cadishead, Carrington, Castlefield, Castleton, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Cheetham Hill, Chelford, Chester, Chorlton, Church Lawton, Clayton, Compstall, Congleton, Cranage, Croft, Crewe, Crumpsall, Culcheth, Cumbria, Daresbury, Davenham, Davyhulme, Davenport, Denton, Derbyshire, Didsbury, Disley, Dumplington, Dunham, Dunham Massey, Eccles, Edgeley, Fallowfield, Farnworth, Firswood, Flixton, Frodsham, Gatley, Gorse Hill, Hale, Hale Barns, Handforth Dean, Hazel Grove, Heald Green, Heaton Moor, Heaton Norris, Heaton Chapel, Heaton Mersey, Heavily, Heywood, High Lane, High Legh, Hyde, Holmes Chapel, Horwich, Irlam, Kearsley, Knutsford, Lancaster, Leeds, Leigh, Levenshulme, Liverpool, Littleborough, Little Lever, London, Longsight, Lostock, Lymm, Lower Peover, Macclesfield, Manchester, Marple, Mere, Middlewich, Middleton, Milnrow, Mobberley, Monton, Nantwich, Nice(France), Northenden, North Wales, Northwich, Nottingham, Offerton, Oldham, Old Trafford, Ollerton, Orrel, Partington, Pendlebury, Penketh, Prestbury, Preston, Prestwich, Poynton, Radcliffe, Ramsbottom, Reddish, Rochdale, Romiley, Royton, Rusholme, Saddleworth, Saint Helens, Sale, Sale Moor, Salford, Salford Quays, Sandbach, St Petersburg (Russia), Staffordshire, Standish, Stalybridge, Stretford, Stockport, Stockton Heath, Swinton, Tameside, Tarporley, Tatton, Thelwall, Timperley, Trafford Park, Tytherington, Urmston, Victoria Park, Walkden, Warburton, Wardle, Wardley, Warrington, Westhoughton, Whalley Range, Whitefield, Widnes, Wigan, Wilmslow, Winsford, Winstanley, Wirral, Withington, Woodford, Woodhouse Park, Worsley, Wythenshawe"

try and concentrate more on getting up for the one keyword when you're doing all the SEO.
For example build the backlinks using websites that are related to the niche and have a bit more authority. Also post some new and fresh content on the website a bit more often. So broaden you're SEO efforts basically.

Tell Google what you want, optimize your site for that exact keyword, just don't over due it.

IMHO that site needs to back off the keyword stuffing a bit!
      Hi

Thanks for the advice, i know his site doesnt have the keyword in his tags but what puzzles me is that lots of the others on page 1 dont either? and although he seems to have more backlinks he doesnt do as well as some others with less backlinks?

And i do agree about the location keyword stuffing?

      thanks

The keyword that you will use is strong enough to be in competition with its quality content the story is highly relevant to the keyword.

Yes, website title, description, heading and text must match your keywords. You can see exaple here. The keyword is "Power of Hypnosis" (intitle, inurl, indescription, in image alts). - powerofhypnosisrevealed.com

its cant be the fact he has keyword stuffing (hypnosis manchester etc), as Google doesnt count that anymore.

When i compared it to the netdoctor on number 1 spot my friends site has around 250 links to 3 links (Yahoo) for the number 1 ranked term. Not all of those results on page 1 are well optimised, or higher pr or much else so i cant see why he has trouble getting his site further up the rank. He has now slipped to position 11!

Any other input on why this might be, apart form what others have said?

thanks for the reply Yukon. I know that if you have keyword in your url/title etc that is how to got to the top, but i ve checked 2 or 3 other reuslts on the 1st page and they dont have the keyword in their title or url either.

I suppose that his page is not exactly about anxiety, and it is probably all hese things adding up that is leading to poor positioning.

    thanks
