Does Link Location Effect Google Country Results?

Just wondering if link location or TLD has an effect on how you rank on other Google data centers.

For example I seem to be able to rank o.k on the US data center but 5 pages lower on the .co.uk data center for the same term.

My query is that if I start getting incoming links from .co.uk sites will this push up my ranking on the google.co.uk SE, or is it based more on the tld itself and the location of the server where the site is hosted?

I'm aware there is obviously some differences for each country but what determines how well you will rank in that country?

ive seen the best effect for trying to rank a specific country by hosting the website in that country. for example, i have a site that targets a uk market and it wasn't until i put the site on a host in the uk that i started ranking well for google.co.uk. sorry about the no capital letters, the crappy keyboard i'm using doesn't allow them.

I thought that would be the case but I wonder if you push enough .co.uk links that would somehow make up for not hosting it in the specific country.

I'm pretty sure some people get their sites to rank well on all data centers regardless of where there sites are hosted so there must be other factors as well. I bet someone somewhere has tested it!

Yeah, you can definitely get things to rank with enough links. And yes in my experience, links from the country will help you rank in that country.

There are country-level algorithms embedded in Big G's search engines. What ranks in your country might not rank to others and vice versa. That's the reason why good SEO is required for better results.
