Right now i try to find good niches but i think in most cases i can beat the sites on rank 11 to xxx so in my eyes all that matters are the first ten sites.

So why teach all the internet marketing school that you should go for the overall countings in competition?

Also which pagerank can a beginner archieve?
Why there is no scoring system existing that tells me exactly how many "points" i have to get for being for example on place #1 on google?

The overall competition in a niche tells you how much work and time it is going to take to get to number one.

Pagerank has a very specific definition (see here http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...questions.html ). I think you mean can a beginner take the number one spot for a niche? Absolutely. And the less competition there is, the easier it will be.

As far as a scoring system goes, the problem is that what Google does is a secret and we're all trying to figure it out. And, if there was a system it would be different for every search term.

In a less competitive niche, it is possible for a beginner to take a number one spot.

What a task it would be to figure out Google's scoring system. All things Google seem to be locked in such secrecy.

Using many different article sites, blog sites and web 2.0 sites to create unique related content with backlinks to your site can get you pretty far pretty quickly in a small niche. It all depends on the competition. I get traffic from long tail key words sometimes in less then a week after publishing a new squidoo lens. Some of those click over to the main or affiliate site. So just continually building content will eventually get you the traffic even if your not high up in the ranks.

It all depends on how overcrowded the niche is and what the competition level is like

It all depends on how hard you work and how much time you spend on link building.

okay, let´s say, we want to be under the first 5 google listings.

Are google rankings #6 and above in any case important for me? Or is all that i have to do beating #5 and i can totally ignore the other sites that aren´t under the top 5?
