isn't social bookmarking the easiest SEO method?

I've read quite a few posts, not just on this forum, that people are saying social bookmarking takes too long to do. That's crazy.

It only takes long because a lot of people are doing it manually, and submitting them one at a time.

I am all for doing things the lazy way.

You can submit to 48 top sites with Social Marker all at once. And it's a completely free tool.

You just have to set up with the sites the first time through social marker, but once you do that, it's pretty much automatic every time after that.

I'd have thought this was what most people were using already, but it doesn't seem the case.

Hope this helps.

Social Bookmarking sites have some real "Google pull"; that's for sure. It's silly to overlook them.

submitting automatically means all you get is a link, no traffic to speak of. do it manually, build up your profile, get some followers, and you generate links from digg and natural links also. plus you'll get traffic from digg itself.

You have a valid point, but it does give you backlinks and boost your PR, and it only takes a couple of clicks. In terms of getting traffic from networking, sites like myspace and facebook are probably more effective than bookmarking sites.

Social bookmarking is not very time consume but it does not bring the same benefits as other methods because like so many things on the web it has been abused. SB should be a small part of your SEO strategy.

Social bookmarking is just one of the many tools that you can use.

In terms of SEO, always think in terms of how google operates. Google's objective is to return the most relevant content to its users. And well one way of determining that besides content is the quantity and quality of backlinks to your website.

So in general, its good to have backlinks from various relevant websites back to your website in a fairly frequent manner.

Merely having backlinks from socialbookmarking websites wouldn't really be enough. Unless its long tail keyword without any real competition.

Is socialmarker really free or is there a charge? I was prompted to a sales page and something about $150 lifetime?

    Hi PalatnkFactor,

Socialmarker is free. You might have accidentally clicked on their ad for SocialSubmitter 1.2, Thats a paid software.

For socialmarker, you will need to signup accounts for the individual socialbookmarking websites first.(free) And then in future what socialmarker does is that it will do a fast login with copying of the title, keywords, descriptions and urls of the webpage you want to bookmark. It speeds up the process of bookmarking.

All in all it takes roughly 5-10minutes to get a socialbookmark done across all the accounts.

Hi Li and everyone else. =)

A great resource for social bookmarking is www.mturk.com. You can find people to add comments, ask questions, give advice, whatever for pennies. It's basically set up for people needing a human being to do tasks that are relatively simple to do to save time.

They do their billing in pennies. So for example, you can say I want 100 replies to my blog post and I'll pay 5 cents each and people will do it all in a few days. Not too shabby...

Social Marker is free but it's really not the best place as, per their site, it only sends to 5 even though they list more. You have to pay for more.

Also, if you're just going in to get backlinks, you're really missing the boat when it comes to the whole Social Media Traffic strategy. I mean if you don't bookmark properly, your bookmarks will be devalued and you may not get any traffic from them at all.

There is a lot to Social Bookmarking Traffic. You're just scratching the surface. It should be part of your whole campaign, not the end all be all.

Thanks for the tool suggestion. Will check it out.

i've always heard that if you don't change your title and description, then Google will disregard the "20 or so" bookmarks. Must chang iwht every 5 bookmarks, otherwise, you could be penalized as well.

so be careful with tools like Social Marker that bookmark lots of sites at once.

Why would you get your sites shut down from too much traffic from a source? What type of site were you operating?

I believe I told you already the type of site, server, and hosting company. Re-read my previous post entirely.

Basically, I had so much simultaneous traffic that it took more that 25% of the server resources. That is not allowed on a shared server, so they shut it down so the other sites could still function and operate.

              Does that answer your question?

Well like I said previously, Social Marker's main thing is to push you to buy their package that sends out to a bunch of sites. Their free service does not.

Yeah from social bookmarking no doubt you will get good traffic but what about conversion rates - very less. They all are window shoppers and just come and vanished.

But yeah if you want to convey a message to general a large than definitely this one is effective one.

      Somn,

You're right about the good traffic, however it all depends on what you're doing to get people to your page, and what that content is on that page.

There is such a big misconception about what bookmarking is or how to do it properly. If you want to drive traffic to a site to make sales, bookmarking a sales page isn't SOCIAL. It's called SOCIAL bookmarking for a reason.

The methods we teach in the Social Media Formula show you how to create an entire campaign to get that social bookmarking traffic. Bring in the targeted people to your sales page or offer so they are better qualified.

Great conversation going on the benefits of social bookmarking.

There are other services besides Social Marker that can give similar results such as Socialmatic at Socialmatic | Socialbookmarking and Onlywire at Bookmark & Share - The Power of the Button | OnlyWire

The main thing to keep in mind is these services are set up to upsell you to the bigger package so you can submit to more sites. However, its important to note that an automatic solution may be quicker, but its not always the most effective.

When you submit to social bookmarking sites using a service like Socializer you have much more control. Adding proper tags and different description content will help you achieve much better results.

Not to mention much of the really good results from social bookmarking come from getting your friends and followers involved to propel your submissions forward. This really is the key whether it's with StumbleUpon, Digg etc.

You need to build up your network of friends and use the right elements in your website to generate a big response from your visitors.

    • Adding new blog posts to social bookmarking sites is usually something that I do if I remember to.

As been noted before, it's not really about the submission process but having a network that can push your article onto the frontpage

I've no doubt that if you are part of the Digg or Sphinn mafia then you'll be playing a different SEO ballgame then the rest of us lowly muppets

Well I don't really like to badmouth any place but Socialmarker really frustrates me.

I would be going through their process and all of a sudden the frame drops and the page closes, or some sites don't load at all, or it's really slow.

personally, I don't have time for that.

Getting on the front page of Digg shouldn't really be part of your strategy. You'll loose focus on the whole purpose of social bookmarking in the first place. You should have an overall marketing campaign to bring in traffic to your site or affiliate site.

So many people do not have a strategy, they just wrote a post, then bookmark it and ping it all over but that is really not the best way to get the MASS amounts of traffic.

I have read all the replies and discussion on this thread. Submitting Social bookmarking through the software is easy but In my point of view manually should be their. Social bookmarking does not mean that to get only backlinks but also get high volume of traffic. That is the main purpose behind it. So create your good looking profile which'll attract visitors.

Watch this video Social Bookmarking Strategy - Dominate With Social Media Formula

I talk about how I started a BRAND NEW site, less than an hour old. I installed wordpress on a Hostgator shared account and got it looking nice. ( Social Bookmarking Strategy - Dominate With Social Media Formula) Then I made 2 posts. Nothing big. After that I did a few of the bookmarking techniques and went to lunch.

While I was at lunch, I received a call from Hostgator. They said that they had suspended my account because of too much traffic and I was using too much of the server's resources!

That was FREE TRAFFIC... I mean Immediate traffic, from Social Bookmarking techniques!

The video is basically me saying the same thing I did above so I guess you don't really need to go there to see it. Also, it's on a sales page, so I'm not sure if it's even appropriate for me to share it here.

Make sure you join all popular social bookmarking sites such as StumbleUpon, Digg, Del.icio.ous, and other great social bookmarking sites. The more you join, the more traffic you'll bring to your website. It is also important to stay active at these sites to reap even more traffic. People love it when they see active users constantly bookmarking and staying active within the site. This gains a trust connection between you and your readers and now they may feel that urge to take action.

Social marker does have bugs, which I have encountered.

Social bookmarking like any other link building approach, does work.. it gives you link and depending on how good quality the pages / sites are, it gives you referral traffic.

They are not permanent however (not permanently indexed and likely can also be removed by the bookmarking site for whatever reasons) ... I have used bookmarking to boost websites' ranking on search engines.. then later those cached bookmarking links disappear but my rankings remain, I attribute this in part to low bounce rates on the sites.
