Article directories - Take an Article and ADD sth? Legal?

Hi there,

I was wondering if I am missing something in this equation :

Article directories are primarily set up so that people post articles on them and get a backlink via the resource box.

People with blogs, sites etc. can take these articles and put them on their pages, but they must keep them in tact ( links and all ).

Lets leave the duplicate content issue ( if its actually an issue ) for now.

Can you add your own links to the site that this article is on? Lets say your blog post?

I am looking for a down side, except for the fact it will most probably not stay indexed for long ( depending on the power of the site ).

Your thoughts?

Sincerely, Buyseech

Duplicate content is an issue on the same site, not so much on different sites.

What downside are you looking for - from the article writer's perspective or the article user's perspective?

By downside : I was reffering to the fact you add your own link, besides the 2 that are incorporated in the article alone.

If that is possible why wouldnt people take other peoples articles, post them on web 2.0 pages and besided the 2 links just add their own. I am reffering to the web 2.0 sites that do not have "duplicate content checker" like Hubpages for example.

Is there any downside except that it might not get indexed or stay indexed long.

Hope I was clear with the question.

You can do as long as there is no specific license with the article saying that it can't be syndicated or whatnot. You have to leave the original author's link in the article but you can add your own if you'd like. If you remove the original author's link, be prepared for your hosting company to shut you down when they get served with a DMCA warning. And don't listen to the guy I'm quoting below this, he's so wrong I'm wondering if he knows what SEO is.

Kingofseo, huh? You might want to learn about SEO before grabbing a name like that. Please feel free to use some of your own articles, put my link in them, and send them out all over the place so my rankings "drop".

    Absolute Nonsense!

A while back Travis Sago created a video on this exact same issue. What he did was pretty simple.

Before he places someones else article onto his blog, he writes an "editorial review" on top of the page with his links and some extra content. I was trying to find the video for you, but I am not sure where it is. I'll see if I can find it.

The downside would be your not creating your own original content, which is what we all are looking for, including the big G! Stand out, write unique content, and bring some freshness to the table!

It is going to be a matter of reading the terms of service for the article directories you are getting the content from.

This is from the EzineArticles Publisher page -

"You have permission to publish this article electronically or in print, free of charge, as long as you leave the article title, author name, body and resource box intact (means NO changes) with the links made active and you agree to our posted publisher terms of service."

That means you can't change the resource box.

You can add extra content after or before the article but can't modify anything within the article or the resource box.
