I was wondering, does anyone know if a text link on the side bar or blogroll of a high PR site is an effective back link?

Thanks

It's funny you posted this, I really haven't thought about getting these types of links until recently.

I have a PR 5 domain that I've been neglecting for a long time but the PR never dropped. So the site has well over 4K links and a ton of them are from being listed in several blogrolls.

So I recently started to post again on the blog. Then I put a blogroll link on this PR5 domain to another site of mine and I saw a dramatic jump to page 1 in Google for my keyword on that domain.

What I like about blogroll links is that not only do you get the initial link from the homepage (which could have a high PR) but you'll continue to get links whenever they post something new, so it's like blog commenting without having to comment and you have the link anchored with your target keywords as well.

That's the thing, getting some nice link juice from the high PR home page link plus lots of other links that build up & the addition of the anchor text, it does seem like a great link to have.

I just got myself set up with one so I'll see how it goes.

I was more wondering how Google views these kind of links but they do seem to be working for many people though.

  • That's crazy that 1 link in your PR5 blogroll shot your site to page 1. You'd think it would take a little more than 1 link from a good site.

@ Articulate Blogger - actually it wasn't just the 1 PR5 backlink, I also got another 50 or so links from the blog as well, so the combination really helped.
