Custom User Profile Plugin For Word Press

Hi guys,
I have searched literally everywhere trying to solve an absurd little problem with WordPress. I need a plugin that will give the user a nicer experience when they register and log into my blog for the first time.
I don't understand why WP does it this way. I'm trying to start out with the default free theme, and the default page a newly registered user is taken to looks just like my admin dashboard. The information is not relevant to the new user, and--the WORST thing of all--there is no convenient way for them to actually get out of the profile and into my site! Why, WP--why?
I installed Register Plus Redux, and that allows me to customize some things, but this WordPress dashboard has got to go. Anybody know of a plugin that does this? I don't know how to code anything :p
