Actually no, they were testing it on a small scale, however it has been released to the masses just now...
I think it changes the way that parked domains will rank

This is not old news. Instant was old news, instant previews is new news. It will be another interesting ride for us SEO'ers.

I can't work out why anyone would want to preview a website without visiting it. Seems to me like a useless feature.

I thought the whole appeal of Google was its simplicity. The more they complicate it, the worse it gets.

You can turn it off and on. You have to click the magnifying glass, then
if you click on the x to close it, it should turn it off until you click
the magnifying glass again. At least I can turn it off and on.

One thing I notice about the preview feature is that it shows the old look of your website if you've recently updated it. One of my websites which I just started working on again has my old wordpress design and not the one that's been up for a couple of weeks now. I wonder how long it takes for the updated version of your site to show in google instant preview?

I'm assuming it just shows the cached version, no? In this case, wouldn't each update occur every time they cache your page (usually a few days)?

I'm seeing traffic from this web preview stuff too in Stat Counter. It looks like this under recent visitor activity:

    Number of Entries: 1
Entry Page Time: November 10th 2010 11:20:54 PM
    Visit Length: 0 seconds
    Browser: Google Web Preview 0

I think if you are logged into a Google Account it saves it, mine did anyway.

It's possible it's not saving the preference to the cookie.

I agree it's annoying, especially on a small netbook screen where i use the direction keys a lot, have web site previews blocking most of the screen.

I think people are mixing up instant with preview.
preview in and of itself is always turned on. But you don't
have to use it! So if you hate it, STOP CLICKING the
      magnifying glass!!!! Seriously!

If you are really talking instant, you can turn that off too!
Do a search, and to the right of the search box is the button!!!

I am curious as to how this might play a roll in determining which sites get clicked on.

An example would be product-related niches. Personally, if I am looking for a widget, now I can simply click/hover over the mag glass to see if the site sells widgets, or if its a MFA or informational site. I just wonder how the lay person may use that feature.

There may be some benefit to making some above-the-fold adjustments to the site's look and feel. I did see one site which had an image above the content stating something like...Best Deals on Widgets. This may entice that person who is on the fence to click.

I find this preview feature annoying and hope that they do not keep it.

It is changes like this that is going to eventually drive people to Bing / Yahoo.
