Question - Link Building Software and Script Question

Warriors -

This is a strange one. Backlink experts may have some insight.

I got a link request on about 50 of my sites. I have enclosed the link request below.

The interesting thing is the link request SAYS they have already linked to my site, and when I visit the link they give me, it seems to go to a resource script on their site that makes it appear as if they have already given me a back link.

When you visit the site, without going through that link, you don't see the backlink, or the post. I believe it is created on the fly to give the impression of a backlink being present, without actually providing one.

Very interesting script - anyone know what it is?
How the process of emailing, and seemingly creating the backlink, being automated? It appears very sneaky indeed ...

Here's the email, and if you click on the link, you can see the "pretend" backlink that was supposedly created:

My site, in the below example, is salsadancingsecrets.com:

------> BEGIN EMAIL

I was just checking out salsadancingsecrets.com ..

and I wanted to say I enjoyed it. I just found it on Google.com when searching for "salsa dance videos" (who would have thought right )

We focus on ballroom dance lessons and reviews of DVD courses, and I know that helping each other could get us both more traffic. I went ahead and setup a page about your site on our site: Check Out salsadancingsecrets.com | Best Ballroom Dancing DVD Lesson Reviews

Our site has been around for over a year, and gets a lot of traffic.

It would be great if you could link to my site with something like "ballroom dancing lessons" or something similar as the anchor text. You know how hard it can be to get found online nowadays.

Well I wish you the best of luck and if you need anything just get a hold of me at maria@ballroomdancereviews.com

Maria

P.S. Sorry for the multiple emails, I wasn't sure which was the best one to reach you at

------------> END EMAIL

Any insight into how this automation is occurring?
What plugin or software is allowing them to scrape sites, and insert code, creating pages on the fly that seemingly have a backlink?

Try going to the website without the resource link above, and of course, your links do not appear.

    Sounds like a clever script indeed.

    Here's how it works:

    Let's say I'm the black hat spammer, and you're you.

    1) I harvest your email from a source (say a forum of mine you commented on).

    2) Store your email & website in a table in my database. You are assigned a number, say 23553.

    3) Use a variable passed in a URL, e.g.- http://www.spammyspam.com#victim=23553
    (or alternatively I might take advantage of javascript's document.referrer)
    to determine who you are, based on the email link you just clicked.

    4) You navigate to my page through the email link and the page picks up who you are, pulls the information from the database and creates a spoof link, making you think I've already linked to your site.
    Interesting black hat spoof. Quite creative.
    Thanks for the post, I learned something!

    EDIT:
    Note- in step three, I may or may not cloak the email link

    Want to find out for sure? Go to the original text-only version of the email (view original in the upper-right corner if you use gmail) and check out the code behind the link.
    If you do decide to do this, paste it here please! (:
