Use categories like Amazon, Ebay or what not.

Based from my own personally experience, I used to make a list of all my favorite topics and topics that I thin some people may have interest on. I make sure I have about about 15 to 20 of them and simply run a google search using the adword keyword tool... and see what are top searches that it spits out..Then search forums too for further investigation in the niche if it is viable

From there I would select the ones where I think i can make a decent dough..

    That is just me...

I like to stick with niches that I'm interested in or that I know I can write a decent amount of content about. A lot of times I'll just be wandering around a store or through a mall and something will catch my eye and I just get a feeling that I could write my heart out about it and sell it online.

Serf forums and see other people's link in their signatures and get ideas through other forum members. Search in Google trend and see what are the current hot topics.
