Lets say my phrase is loose weight at home. Lets also say that i cant use the phrase as my address but I can use it in my title and articles and everything else on page... is that a deal breaker? So in other words my url might be yo fatty dot com but I am wanting to rank for loose weight at home.

It's not a deal breaker at all.

Yes, getting an exact match domain can help a lot in the rankings but if you have done your keyword research and have a really good phrase that you want to use then don't let the unavailability of an EMD put you off.

That being said, if there is no EMD, it could indicate that other people who know how to rank sites are also going for the keyword.... or they could all be taken by marketers who dont want to do any work to get the phrase ranked and think an EMD would get them to #1 with no backlinks.

In the end, you have to do the research to determine what kind of battle you will have ranking the page.

Never thought of that. Go to exactdomainname.com
and see how the owner is trying to rank. Go to Google
or Yahoo and search for exactdomainname.com and see
      what linking has taken place.

Just looked at loseweightathome.com out of curiosity
and what do I find there - a domain name parking page.

That has been one of the most frustrating things has
happened to me in the past where I have been searching
for exact match domain names just to find a parked page.

Yeah, I hate that! But on the other hand, you know that no one is throwing a bunch of links at a parked page so you don't have to worry about it as far as competition goes

I would imagine those are fairly competitive phrases. Its helpful to have keywords in the domain but not critical to ranking well. Build good quality content and promote it, but bear in mind that is a highly competitive niche.
