Does anyone besides me use PPC anymore??

I have been reading posts for several months now and i was just curious if anyone here uses PPC. I have seen a few threads and comments about it but almost EVERYONE talks about SEO and backlinking. I never worried about backlinks until a joined here. I love PPC (as long as I keep a steady ROI) but now I am starting SEO. It just seems like a TON more work.

    It's always a good idea to diversify your traffic sources. What would happen to your business if Google shut you down? SEO is another traffic source, but it will take time.

    I think a combination of things that can bring you instant traffic, like PPC, Videos, Press releases, and then long term traffic sources like SEO is best

    Google went through a spell of sending out their "your ad violates our T&C but we're not telling you why and, by the way, you're banned for life" email quite recently.

    I think that made quite a few people re-evaluate their marketing mix.

      Unfortunately I was one of these victims. I was caught out on the "bridge page" policy, as were a lot of other guys in my niches. I guess it was only a matter of time, because I do admit that some of these "review pages" were just rubbish. Now it is time to re-think my marketing plan, and I need to come back bigger and stronger with higher quality pages, which is ultimately all Google is asking for.

    PPC is fast and quick, easy traffic which comes fast but goes quick too, but SEO is toil and hardwork and organic traffic which stays too.

    Justin,

    If you're making money with PPC, then by all means keep doing it! Many people don't do PPC anymore because they cannot make money using it. The costs/click keep going up and Google often eliminates accounts on a whim.

    But if it works for you, no need to do SEO. SEO is a lot of work and there is a steep learning curve.

    BTW: I would imagine your product/site convert very well for you to be profitable with PPC, most are not.

    Its definately a situation where you need to evaluate the money you are making with PPC and do the math to make sure its cost effective. You can easily lose track of PPC and start losing money with it. I had a campaign running that started out costing me roughly $5 a sale and over the course of a year started costing me $15 a sale and was no longer feasible. You do need to work on organic seo in the meantime as that money is much better spent than PPC. Remember that once you quit running your PPC it no longer has a positive effect on your website/business. Whereas when you seo and build rank organically you are building your future. Not to mention more folks click on organic results vs google adwords.

      I think you're confusing AdWords with AdSense ... this thread's about buying PPC advertising, not about publishing it.

      ladida, I think Justin was coming from the other side of the table. He was buying the ads.

      Justin, you have basically three schools of thought on SEO vs. buying PPC ads.

      Some folks have been burned using Adwords, etc.. Having been burned once, they've decided not to touch that particular stove again.

      Some folks seem think that spending money on traffic leads to bad breath, impotence, zits, and a variety of other nasty things. The very idea of buying ads gives them the heebie-jeebies.

      The third school couldn't buy an ad if they wanted to, so they simply convince themselves that they wouldn't want to anyway.

      The fourth school of thought likely hangs out in the PPC section of the forum, as was mentioned. Although most of them seem to keep a pretty low profile, while most of the conversation revolves around making money by generating clicks.

              You should try social networking too - there's some great social networking websites to get your website well known out there (providing you use them well and have a nice, clean and well optimised website).

    Hello.

    PPC can work well, but it takes a budget and time to perform adequate ad testing.

    From those test results, you can then determine what works and what doesn't, and then fund future PPC advertising for a better chance at an acceptable Return on Investment (ROI).

    PPC gives you much high and quick traffic than SEO, SEO is slow process and its hard, you have to compete with many others SEO, but PPC traffic will not give business as SEO traffic do, also high bounce rate of PPC traffic. Thats why i prefer SEO.

    There is a lot more to ppc than google. Seems that if ppc is mentioned in a sentence it's bound to be adwords. A lot of the guys that did ppc with adwords are doing FB,POF, MSN/YAHOO, maybe even second tier search engines.

    Google is a pain in the butt, adwords is a BAD business model for affiliate marketers, and it should by all means not be your only source of traffic.

    Seo doesn't have to be a lot of work, if you play on the right keywords with the right competition. Seo doesn't even have to be long term.

    PPC is great if your selling something, I was only using adsense with some amazon referrals on a low traffic micro niche and was spending $20 a day of a $100 free coupon only to test out my sites layout for CTR, and I only made $5 a day. Not exactly profitable IF it was my money.
    If you have something else that sells more then your daily budget yea that would work, as long as you sell one per day. Now I could be wrong and I tend to be sometimes but I just don't see how adwords to an adsense website could make money, even with high traffic niche I just can't see it.

    PPC advertising is OK id you can afford it. The traffic you get from some famous PPC networks ad adsense are targeted in most cases. I have tries PPC advertising some times and i was successful with it.

    I think the hardest bit about PPC (when you're managing 20+ of your corporate websites) is finding if or not you have made a return or not, if I was able to manage this I'd be able to work out which websites perform well with PPC and which don't require it.

    Yeah I use PPC. Its great for me, we get leads from it and thats most important but we spend £1600 as month on PPC where we could pay that for an SEO company to do the work and be on the top on the natural listings, then we'd have free clicks and leads but PPC is easy and immediate. I think its important to do SEO at the same time though.

      Little update since i first posted this thread. Have been working on SEO a lot and I am actually starting to see some results for some long tail keywords I use. For one of them I am on top of page 2 on Google and still climbing, the other, page 4(still working on it though) out of thousands of pages. I think I am getting ADDICTED to SEO.

    PPC is the best way for making traffic for new websites as new websites can't rank high in search engines usually. And as you learned seo takes some months to give result and also you should have enough information about seo works you want to do because doing mistakes can gives you reveres result. Also PPC is a good way for some businesses. It depends on thew subject of website. Some websites don't make money by PPC and some others make.
