I wouldn't be surprised if they never update it again. You see, internal PR is constantly being updated, External PR is only an unnecessary gauge for webmasters (and link buyers).

No External Toolbar PR = Less link buying = Cleaner Serps.

We'll have to see what Google ends up doing, although even if they killed Toolbar PR it wouldn't stop link buying. There are PR prediction tools that estimate your internal PR based on # of links and link quality.

PR is actually a mathematical formula.

Interesting thought, but certainly they wouldn't freeze it where it is, would they? That wouldn't make sense because reputation and rank of existing website will continue to change. If they never update it again, the right thing to do would be to discontinue allowing access to the little green toolbar.

I built a new .info site in March 2010 and it is now a PR1 site so they must have done it sometime between March and September, when it went to PR1

I have seen some people noticing some PR changes for their internal pages but not their home pages. I believe google has changed the process how they update 'live' PR of sites and the toolbar PR since they started using 'caffeine'. So for the next major update it could be during new year.

PR and link building is part of their business strategy so they definitely not going to get rid of them. The make a lot of money when people keep talking.

I've been saying it will be next month for the past 4 months, now I'm seriously starting to think they are going to just kill External PR, or at least quit updating it so often.

Why do they need External PR anymore... They don't!

I noticed that Google has not typically a major crawl the web every 28-30 days (once a month), and PR updates every 3-4 months I am just waiting for the next upgrade, so they can take my new site.
